Appatently multiple explosions in london subway, alot of injured people and everything seems very unclear atm, but we have to just hope that casualties are kept to minimum.

The idea is good, but I doubt that any game dev can have a new area/chapter ready each week. That would also result in crunch time each and every day:D
Yeah well key to it is to do it like they do with TV shows and make enough chapters/episodes so you have time to work on the next bunch, they don't do tv shows the day before they show it on tv you know
And I was thinking more about them being like monthly "expansions" with every chapter unlocked every week, so it creates the continuity.

It might be too early to be talking about anything related to this project, but I want to ask if there are some loving for the type of thing I'm doing.
Anyone played Gloom? A Modification for Quake 2, it is THE mod I feel is best mod ever made, it was one of the first mods to really kick mods up a notch, make something truely unique and impressive, but back then, mods were way more innovative than todays CS clone shooter #1 and it's side kicks.
From Gloom to Natural Selection, many people say that NS is a copy of Gloom but I don't think so, and rather, I do not care if it is, it is a great mod in it's own right, of HL mods NS is the best one by far.
You might ask how these two modifications have anything to do with me and my lil project, well, I'm designing a mod like that, but it is still in it's starting line, I haven't actually decided which game to use, I'm still trying to compare the options I have. Obviously the project is very large, but babysteps gets it done, as of currently the core team is two people and I intend to keep my core team very small before later when there is actually a mod to work on if you guys know what I'm saying.
I got a long design document already and I'm pretty much ready to start working on the graphics, but still the engine is the biggest grief, so I'm asking you, which game you think we should go for? The current options could be HL2 and UT2k4, but I'm not counting out FarCry, BF2 and Doom3, not yet anyway.
So give input. I'll provide the output

I suggest that you take up and read Alan Moores League Extraordinary Gentlemen book 2, it is a straight copy of H.G. Wells WotW novel, but it kicks ass because it has the best bunch of "superheroes" ever.
What did they say in the movie? "They have been planning this for million years" and still their plans didn't include the possibility of a deadly virus? Just like the super intelligent aliens that master the inter stellar travel in Signs but didn't notice how earth is one fucking wet planet.
Man, I'm saying humanity doesn't have anything to worry about, these alien invaders are fucking stupid as sticks.

I really like the idea of a game coming out and having new chapters every now and then, I'd love to see some games to do that through internet instead of releasing expansion pack year after the release of the original game.
But 20 dollars for a chapter, I don't know, it ofcourse depends on how long these chapters are and how much new content they offer.
It could be like a TV show, you pay monthly and developer release a new chapter or "episode" for you to play every week, or something like that. Like I said, possibilities are rather endless, we just have to make something more viable than Steam to do this, ofcourse I got nothing against Steam, I use it every day since I play alot of HL mods, but are you sure many developers would like to use something tied so closely to another game and company?

i heard about some company that made games for mobile phones, i think in Norway or Sweden. Anyway at first they got mad sponsoring because they promised all kinds of things and had good PR so they got mega deals with hollywood and stuff, but then they started wasting all this money, running around the offices naked, having orgies and going to sexclubs and prostitutes and they were bankrupted. Im not exaggerating btw
Yes, but please don't quote your dreams as facts in the future.

But what if it was the game?
Then we are doomed since there are literally millions of gamers who play violent games and if people snap that easily, then alot more of them are going to snap too and eventually the universe will collapse and only thing left floating in vacuum is words "I told you so".

A piece of propaganda even a guy like me can enjoy, this is so groovy and funky.

I have been reading from different sources that hemp production was quite big in USA back in early 1900s, the goverment even produced a propaganda film named "Hemp for Victory" during WW2 to lure farmers to grow hemp to produce ropes and such.
But news paper mogul William Randolph Hearst, helped oil and timber industry to discretid hemp and marijuana, hemp being an inexpensive source for petroleum and paper substitute since hemp produces harvest annually as opposed to forests that take up to 80-100years to grow. Hearst himself hit profit during this lobbying campaing to generate reader bias of stories of car accidents involving marijuana and not informing them about the medical use of hemp as colic medicine, Hearsts news papers never told that Marijuana and Hemp were actually the same plant, but often printed rediculous "facts" about Marijuana and exaggerated the supposed damages of recreational use.
But now thanks to these oil and timber industry moguls of 1940s, most national forests of US have been cut down (endangering animals like the national bird American Bald Eagle), instead of using Hemp as a source for paper and oil.
If Hemp was used for oil I suppose we could have avoided wars against Afganistan and Iraq (I do not comment on if the war was about oil or actual terroris threat since neither of these two reasons have been proven in any way)

I have noticed that the best thing to do is to just watch the movies, I know everybody bashed Alone in the Dark by Uwe Boll and I knew that Uwe is a steaming pile of doodoo, but I watched the movie and yes it sucked balls. But I usually watch around 2-4 movies per week, usually rent or pick a dvd from my friend who is a movie fanatic and collector, very rarely I don't see a movie because some review or some of my friend tought it sucked, I just watch the movies even tho my gut instinct says they are true.
People should see the must see movies like Matrix and it's crappy sequels because they are must see to know what the hell people are talking about.
-
Yeah well I have heard that in US you have to have organizations doing this kind of survey because of too many workers misconduct cases, like the one at EA. I guess that the big IT flop was pretty bad there and alot of people were left unemployed so they went to work under any circumstances, and the worker abuse was created.
So I don't think that they have that many surveys here in scandinavia.

Never trust any reviewer since they are prettymuch bunch of snobs with their cherry and cigars. Here is Finland we have this short review program on tv called 'Projektori' they usually review movies at theaters every week, and EVERY time me and my cousin see that and it has a artsy fartsy art flick on it, they usually give it the highest reviews, once they actually said that they would have given the movie points over the scale because it was so good and it was some mexican art picture about some mother just sitting on a beach and telling stories, so they much be brain dead or they take loads of acid and watch the movies.
So, if you have to read action movie reviews, then take the score and double it, the you are closer to the truth.

And yes, comparing a realtime renderer to something like Brazil is retarted.
Well then I'm glad that I didn't compare them, I was just making an example how technology has been heavily going forward even at this time we think of being the age of new technology with shader effects, first releases of renderers like Povray and the Amiga whathisname are very very primitive when compared to even todays realtime renderers technology vise, I was just pointing out that tomorrows realtime renderers copy the technologies of todays rendering engines, all these normalmapping and HDR shit are old as a fucking rock in renderign engine world, but new and shiny in game engine world. Do you see my point?
People seem to forget that engines are made with clear boundaries set by graphic card manufacturers and OpenGL/DirectX developers, you could make engine with everything imaginable but it wouldn't be much of a joy to play something that takes 15minutes to render a frame, so they optimize and use the features put in graphics cards to help engines render frames faster. Every engine is out dated when a newer version of a graphics card comes out, it's just so simple, when looking something technology vise, but like Tom said, engines become outdated after the developer stop supporting it or developers stop using it.

Games don't make you violent, it's all psychological, if they did make you violent, then what made you a pacifist? I have played my share of the violent games and I have enjoyed them, maybe even have had some laughs when playing Mortal Kombat, but I'm a pacifist and I didn't even go to the army because of my dedication to my "ideology" and army is pretty big thing here in finland, something like 90% of the male population has been in army.
So what did I do to make me pacifist? Was it the morning cereals I ate? Was it the Biker Mice for Mars? What the hell was it if games make you violent, what makes you non violent, there has to be a pattern here for human behavior and child growing, someone should write a book so parents could parent their kids to be like machines to do better workload and never question authority.
Jesus people are stupid.

Now that is great for Insomniac, I'm not that sure but I think I read somewhere that Adobe was number one on the big corporations list.
I hope they don't change their ways in the future.

A game killed my mother and raped my father, I'm a half bag loser and I can't get my dig up, I have never see a lady naked in nature and IT IS ALL GAMES FAULT!
These people are just looking for excuse, like violent murderers trying to convince jury that they are mentally ill so that they go to mental institute instead of prison.

What is this outdated bull crap? How do you define outdated exactly? Is it all graphics or more than that?
The way I define outdated is released AND atleast year or so old, since when engines come they do tend to be usually build for specific work, as in Source's case, they wanted a engine that rolls like a piece of greased fat, techniques worked on by Ageia for physics and many industry leaders on graphics have loads of tricks up their sleeve for the foreseeable future (this is mainly microsoft and their DirectX), so if you define outdated by ratio of how much engine uses of currently available techniques you are never going to see a cutting edge engine.
Unreal Engine 3 is even right now outdated compared to renderers like Brazil, they have much more advanced shader output and are constantly adding more advanced techniques, but Brazil is pretty crappy game engine, eh? I think Source is the best engine currently since it produces excellent visual quality and has some juice left for future in terms of graphics, like the textures used in HL2 were clearly very low res compared to what it can do, and that compared to solid framerates the engine is far from outdated, maybe some dev will come up with a game with better visuals than what valve did for HL2.

Haa haa, you live in earth.
Yeah, this is really cool actually, don't know why, but this kind of useless information is always good thing, just like my favorite pages wikipedia.org and archive.org
