In religion and social studies courses they teach kids about various religions - they don't teach religious belief as fact which is what the ID people want. The only religious fact courses are at private religious schools, which is where these people should be sending their kids if that's what they want them taught.

After Kojima finished off his technical demonstration, Kojima explained why he decided to age his characters. "Old characters are better because their wrinkles can be used to show the rendering capabilities of the PS3," he said. "Young characters have silky skin, so it's not as challenging."

that's a really good reason to advance a plot.

And why does intelligent design rule out evolution and vice versa? Darwin thought that evolution was the tool of an intelligent design.

I can’t be the only one thinking that DNA seems to be a pretty clever thing to spontaneously appear?

bingo. I believe unwaveringly that evolution is the process by which all species have become what they are today, starting with that first spark of life in the muck way back when. How that muck sparked life, I haven't heard a good answer to in a long time.

I wouldn't have much of a problem with ID being mentioned in schools if they would approach it with a little more thought and modesty. What they're doing is presenting it, in science classrooms, as an outright and exclusive alternative to the scientific process.

    Quote

District policy requires school administrators to read a statement before classes on evolution that says Charles Darwin's theory is "not a fact" and has inexplicable "gaps."

Both of those quoted statements are false and misleading. The problem is that ID proponents only want to use it as a wedge to bring outright discussions about God and Creation into schools and even worse, into science classrooms. I'd bet hard money that most of them don't even understand evolution.

Many of these kids are so dumb already (remember this is the American education system), they're already bewildered by the complexity of evolution and this will give them an excuse not to pay attention when they should be learning about it. They're going to believe the easiest solution even if it doesn't hold water. I don't want any seed of doubt planted in their little brains about the scientific method - their parents and preachers can do that well enough on their own time.

Well, as a counterpoint: I'm a skinny bastard at 6'1, ~145lbs, I eat poorly and I drink like a fish. [Blocked Image: http://www.forumplanet.com/iconcommon/counter-strikeforums/sets/smile/58_100_117_110_110_111_58.gif] Different people have different metabolisms and body chemistry, and we all react differently to many of the foods we eat.

I would definitely agree though that regular alcohol and other substance use dulls the wits and is no good for the health.

I would suggest to anyone getting serious about eating well to keep a food diary. Keep track of what you eat and how you feel, and I'm sure you'll find correlations.

Cool stuff gins. Didnt know you you had left namco... was it a temporary job only ?

Well what happened was namco canned the project and laid off most of their dev staff, a couple dozen people. These things happen, it's one of the hard truths of working in the industry and y'all ought to be well aware if you're looking to do this stuff for a living.

So I've been kicking around awhile (too long) since my last stint as a level designer, waiting for a good opportunity and fortunate circumstance in the bay area where I live... and now I've got a job offer from Factor 5 up in San Rafael. I'll be working on Lairfor PS3.

My impression from my visits up there is that this is a really awesome place to work. I've seen the stuff they're working on and it is shit-hot. I'm so excited

plz cs_industrywest was very convincing gins or you talking about dm_zeta ?

zeta. i'm really kind of ashamed of the interior visuals, i felt there was so little i could do with them and custom models are such a pain in the ass, it's not even worth it for that map.

Hipshot, I agree it's the gameplay that matters i'm kind of a purist about making things believable, but it doesn't make much difference when you're being shot at

I feel the same way on most of those points KoKo. The ironsights behave totally differently from what I'm used to in CoD, but they have a precise feel to them that you don't get elsewhere. I'm just regarding them as a pseudo-scope, not for constant use and switching like in CoD. Which is kind of a shame because I'm so used to using them constantly. And I really miss having a bayonet or at least being able to melee with the stock.

considering there's so much bulk of industrial machinery and crap in the hl2 assets it's surprising how difficult it is to take it all and make a convincing factory setting

it has a good look and feel but it's got that same kind of lack of purpose and place that you see in most industrial maps (mine included).

Well, Steam preloads it for everybody. I don't recall if the dvd edition is supposed to enable you to play DoD:S - I imagine it'll say so on the box if so. If Steam doesn't think so then you'll have to buy it. It's worth $20 easily IMO.
