small update, there's not much worth showing.. I just desperately wanted to update the thread.

You should update more often, always nice to see this progress :)

    Hey man!

It seems that the link does not work anymore (for me at least)

I uploaded it somewhere else for you: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2l5vfoquq0pi…ontent.rar?dl=0

Let me know when you have it, so I can use the space for other stuff again :)

Still working on the map, progressing slowly but surely.

I have a question for mappers whose map got into one of CS:GO operations (I'm hoping this one will too, time will tell though):

What is Valve's stance regarding use of textures from sites like textures.com (former cgtextures.com)? From what I understand textures.com allow their textures to be used in such way as long as it is a part of 3D model/map and not sold individually. I'm using their textures only to add detail to my own textures and make them look more realistic (overlaying them over my own basically). So if my map ever gets a chance to be featured in operation could this be a problem?

This shouldn't be a problem, as long as the website/author of the textures allows this. I used a few textures from cgtextures.com in de_ali. If you're not 100% sure you can always ask the people who make and distribute the textures. Like I did, even if it was pretty much clear from the FAQ that it's permitted :)

If my map is still greyboxed and not detailed, but the layout is set and most of the basic principles of the map are there, can I submit it for a test then?

Yes. Just make sure the map has a working radar, enough spawn points (16 per team) and working bomb sites/hostages.

I have never learnt what to keep as brushes and what to make into func details but I assume I should go a bit more crazy with my func_detailing?

(The Aqueduct is made out of a lot of brushes hehe)

I stronly recommend to read @will2k's Man vs Engine. It covers func_detailing, as well as areaportals, occluders and more.

Basically, when you check off all visgroups except for world brushes, you should be left with basic square rooms preferably.

Here's an example of HL2 with everything disabled but world brushes. It's not the world's best example, since they forgot to func_detail some brushes, but you can see it gets rather empty when disabling func_details ;)

If you're done optimizing your map, there should be a good chance the leak issue will be solved automatically, as @El_Exodus already mentioned.

Thanks!Regarding that last one: I have no idea why that prop is lit so badly. I tried all kinds of shaders to improve it, and light_info as well, but no matter what I do it still looks badly lit. Other props in the map look really well lit, and have the same kind of shader. I do not know how to fix this one.

How big is that model? If it's one giant model, maybe splitting it into smaller pieces could fix it? Just an idea.

Not a fan of these ugly gaming mouses either Thanks for the reply, I might pick this up!

So I bought this today :D

Need some getting used to, but it's pretty much just about finding the right sensitivity settings. Other than that, I love it so far! Thanks again @Pericolos0!

I have gone through a few G400s with exactly that problem, and that combined with two cats who like to play with mouse cables is why I wanted to finally go wireless :p.

I can't feel any lag.at all, the low latency is one of main reasons why I picked this one over other wireless mice with longer battery life :).

It charges when the PC is powered off or on standby, though I haven't tested how well it charges in those states.. my computer is pretty much always turned on.
Battery life has been pretty awesome so far, I haven't had it go below 70% even after using it all day long. I do make it a habit to put it on the charging base when I'm away from my computer.

So yeah, so far I'd recommend it :). It's designed with low latency for gaming but doesn't look like a typical ugly gaming mouse, just has a nice minimalist elegant design, which I like a lot. The only thing that sucks is the software that comes with it. Getting the firmware update for it made it stop working completely :S, but if you just install it and have it run in the background, it's no big deal.

Not a fan of these ugly gaming mouses either :D Thanks for the reply, I might pick this up!

I found myself more and more frustrated with having wires laying around on my desk for my peripherals, so I wanted to go all wireless with everything. Took my a while to get decent parts but here they are:

-Bluetooth mechanical keyboard with red switches (had to import it from korea lol https://www.diatec.co.jp/en/det.php?prod_c=1877 ;wireless mechanical keyboards are very hard to find)

    custom keycaps from http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/

Loving it so far :)! I wish the mouse had longer battery life but it's not so bad with the charging base that comes with it. Keyboard batteries will last a year at least but it seems there's no good wireless gaming mouse with such long battery life . Still, the 20+ hours it had is plenty as long as i make it a habit to but it on its charging base when not using it, I haven't had it go dead yet so far

    How is the Steelseries mouse?

My Logitech G400s has been acting like a bitch since a few weeks (randomly disconnecting/reconnecting to the USB port, which according to google search is a pretty common problem related to the mouses' cable). So I'm looking for a replacement, and for the first time I don't plan on getting a Logitech.

Do you experience any lag when using it wireless? I read somewhere it can only be charged with the pad when the computer is on, does that apply to standby mode too?

Overall, would you recommend it? :)

    Why change rifles at all?

In CS:GO, spraying is generally the most popular way of firing a rifle. We can see this pretty clearly in the rifle data that we collect internally, and it’s something we hear the community discussing frequently.
Because we think it’s valuable for players to have choices when they’re thinking about how to engage an opponent, we looked at ways to make tapping/bursting a bit more appealing. The hope was that by encouraging more deliberate firing, we would add something skillful that players could use to their advantage.
As a first step toward this goal, we increased recoverytime for the AK-47, M4A4, and M4A1-S. For a detailed breakdown of the change and its impact, check out this excellent community post by lalush.
Unfortunately, our implementation failed in a few ways.
For one thing, increasing inaccuracy while spraying also comes with reduced accuracy for all forms of firing. Proportionally, spraying was the most impacted, but we underestimated the impact that the change would have on players who were already firing in shorter bursts.
As it turns out, the adjustments didn’t really achieve the goal either – our rifle data shows that players in all skill groups are still spraying more than tapping or bursting.
    What’s next?

It’s difficult to measure the impact on gameplay when too much changes at once. The Winter Update came with some really huge changes to gameplay, including a new weapon, an adjustment to pistols, and the rifle change. Since we likely changed too much too quickly, in today’s update we’re rolling back both the rifle and pistol adjustments to their pre-Winter Update state.
We failed to anticipate the reaction of the community to changes in such heavy-use weapons, and we clearly need to re-evaluate our process for making and communicating about changes in that space. We still think there’s value in trying to find a better balance for pistols and more skillful ways to use rifles, so we hope to tackle rifles and pistols again in the future.
We’re constantly reading community feedback and while we don’t often respond directly, understanding the community is one of the most important parts of working on CS:GO. Mistakes happen, but when they do, we’re committed to making sure they get fixed.

    Happy Holidays,
    The CS:GO Team

Lol, reddit is complaining about the game being more "run and gun/call of duty" when complaining about rifles being harder to move and spray with. It's almost as if they have no idea what they're talking about! Reddit
