    Quote from mikezilla

there were days of downtime... where soldiers ate k rations... took shits in the forest... sat around doing mundane chores like pulling jeeps out of the mud.

You know, you almost summed up 6 months of my military service in one sentence.

thx Stratty for backing me up...

Say what you may, I still don't think the most basic things like dropping on the ground behind a tree instead of standing behind one were different back then, because that's just plain stupid.

And last I checked, forums were made so that ppl can discuss things. That's exactly what we are doing, isn't it? No need to lock unless nobody has anything else to say, right?

    Ok, maybe you're right...

from now on when I play games like wolfenstein 3D and see the enemy soldiers acting idiotically, I'll just remember that humans are stupid and make mistakes.

    Finally I got an explanation...

ok, sure, whatever... I'm just saying it isn't perfect and you all know it, so stop treating it like it is....

LOL, so that answers my question in my first reply to this thread then:

"...were they just stupid during WWII?"

Have you been in the army?

But those mistakes were the kind that only A.I. would do...

And I said "medic (or whatever he is)". There was no way they could know if they were safe and they weren't. There were multiple enemies left for example in the building (shooting through the windows).

I said that the medic (or whatever) shouldn't have made his checkup on the casualty in the middle of the road. He should have dragged the body to a safe place first.

That has nothing to do with what the player ordered them to do...

It's not that big of a deal but he did mention the authentic tactics quite many times and that's why the mistakes caught my attention.

Is it somehow possible to use 3D models made with CAD programs in i.e. HL??

If I was in that situation I'd hide myself very well, and you would too... now they're just doing exactly what they are told in the military NOT to do.

When I was in the military the first reaction to a gun shot (already after a few months) was throwing yourself on the ground and seeking a sheltering firing spot. It became sort of a reflex.

Just ask Stratty, he knows what I mean

    Very nice.

    What program do you use?

Looks pretty nice, but there were a few things that annoyed me:

When the first fight started, one of the guys STOOD behind a tree through the whole fight. That is something you should never do. Lying is what one should do.

And later when one of the guys got killed in the middle of the road, the medic (or whatever he was) didn't drag him to shelter before doing a checkup. He totally exposed himself by just sitting there in the open...

So much for the totally authentic tactics... or were they just stupid during WWII.

Thanks a lot DUFFY for the advice.

I just turned off Truform and now the models are back to normal...

    Thanks for the tips...

I'll try the truform thingie. Don't want to turn off AA and AIF 'cause the game looks foul without them on.

I have a Connect3D Radeon 9600XT 128MB and when I play Half-Life MODs in OpenGL (4 x AA, 8 x AIF, 1024x768) most models are distorted in very odd way. (See the link for an example)

    http://koti.welho.com/elarsson/ns_eclipse0000.JPG

Since HL runs best with OpenGL, I don't want to switch back to Direct3D (in which everything works perfectly).

Anybody know how to fix this?

    Oh, good to know...

Pericolos0 and von*ferret, keep in mind this is my first try, it's obvious that there isn't anything mind blowing... yet.

My next FC (mp) map will be an indoor one, since there are none at the moment... atleast that I know of.
