An actual argument for this working better on PC is the core prop interaction.

Just played the demo, really dig it. Got pretty freaked out a couple of times. Totally getting this if they port it to consoles. That said then I am suing them for ripping off my timeless classic: cs_meat2k :derp:

Seriously though, couldn't help but feel that it was pretty damn close, meat webs n shit all over the place and sorta gothic look

I’m surprised you haven’t sued id for such blatant thievery!

    This is so good.

I played the demo (though purposely didn't finish it) and played the main game as far as the Wine Cellar. What I think is most notable is

I can think of a few games do this, but I can't associate myself with many of the examples. Don't get me wrong, I loved the gorgeous, narrative-driven roller-coaster ride that was Uncharted and I played both twice and brought them day one, but I don’t get a lasting ‘emotional’ feeling from something linear like that. Maybe I'm weird, but I get this more from mechanically driven games: Guilty Gear is a game that still makes me warm and fuzzy inside because you can play it for years and still find out new things and I do get slightly too excited when I see new techniques being used; various Cave games (but it’s hard to explain why to norms); Warcraft 3, particularly using Undead in RoC; World of Warcraft before my class became faceroll, etc.

Uncharted 2's train level is so sexy. I like the way they use about 3 games worth of art budget in each of the 3 locations it travels, and you shouldn't even be looking at it because you're being shot at.

Just got back from a big fighting game tournament and entered BlazBlue (and Guilty Gear, but lost horribly): Knocked out in groups in singles, semi's in unoffical 3v3, and played ton of casuals. Great atmosphere, far from the mental image I had a fighting game tournament, and there's something about a whole room of people cheering a giant red robot piledriving a cat that you just can't recreate with another genre or online. But I had to carry so much gear around, journey took 6 hours, stayed in some horrible hotel, and I lived on McDonalds and Multigrain bars. Oh man, I'm not going to be right for a few weeks. 340 people entered for SSF4 and I hear Diago didn't win... but I wasn't really paying attention.

Ouch, I've heard it's got problems but luckily it's worked fine for me. I'm only in world 3 though. Hopefully they'll patch it.

I certainly think it’s a good thing that PC games no longer come with an inch-thick manual as required reading, nor ask you to play with the A5 cardboard "cheat sheet" that tells you what each key does (I believe this evolution is called "bloody consoles"). But when it comes to removing choice and depth, I think a lot of modern games severely underestimate the average gamer.

I think losing half the customisation from a level up is extreme, though it's a given that late game your underlying stats were a drop in the ocean.

"Simplifying is good" does not work as general statement, it all depends what you’re simplifying. Not everyone is the lowest common denominator. I just had a go on the new talent calculators for Cataclysm and each tree makes you learn everything but 2-3 talents before you hit the 31-spot and can branch out. Why even bother having a tree at this point?

It's true that most people are going to dump the same stats for each class and it can confuse newbies into either checking the internet or ruining their class. Though removing it outright is extreme, the dialog could've just offered good suggestions. And isn’t WoW dumbing down simplifying talent trees (aka skill points) for the expansion? Less talents to learn, only one tree at a time, etc.

No customisation, no experimentation, cookie cutter only.

I'll list what I'm playing right meow.

BlazBlue: Continuum Shift: To be honest I’d rather be playing Guilty Gear, but that (except #R) has no netplay and even if I travel to the arcade these days everything but Tekken is dead. It’s hard to balance a game like this, where characters can actually do stuff, but some of the matchups are rather silly. But the main problem is the characters are all anime tropes, though I quite like Tsubaki and her story (spoiler tags for no real reason):

    Quote

She joins a military academy and is the quiet studious one, she becomes a kind of paladin and is forced to wield a sentient light sealing weapon because of the creed of her incestuous family, gets ordered to kill all her friends and her childhood crush, and just after she’s been told she was a pawn the weapon takes her eyesight and makes her blind

    . lol.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game: Don't really care for Scott Pilgrim, but a retro brawler with Paul Robertson's art direction? Yes please. Dash punch for infinites and currency. Winners don't eat meat.

Yeah, some of these must be fairly old. Maybe there should be a 2010 update: The game narrative is not an emotional journey that presents a deep, subtle message while posing difficult questions about the nature of gaming through conventional game mechanics. No Twinkie.

Disagree with some of them, but it's a good list.

I've read in the FAQ that you are allowed to modify the layout inside the BLU Spawn, which I'm going to do because yeah, it is bad.

Maybe this is all cunningly intentional. Make the BLU spawn better + obscure the sightlines with props + turn the random wall into something = Get a job at valve.

I image they're looking for something different to the other levels though. Possibly fill it with flags or other objects someone could conceivably collect and return to some kind of capture point. Nobody would think of putting those in TF2

for the iPhone, and possibly the earlier titles in the series. I know mapcore doesn't really get excited for this stuff, but it's an amazing game in the succession of titles that created and lead the bullet puke shmup subgenre. I imagine it’ll cost around £7

Don't most games of this type use the main characters name? At a stretch you could use the boat or some other major character (ex: Zelda)

The problem with most of these names is, while they may roll off the tongue better, they're kind of generic and could be tied to a hundred different games. Whereas if the name is something in the actual fiction you don't have this problem. Easy way to establish your franchise too (should you want to expand later).

Also, every time I watch the trailer I get slightly too excited around this point.
