I like it, but I think the lighting needs to be have more contrast and more color. at times it doesnt seem to match the sky. I think a darker blueish/purple lighting would help

I like to see a bit more color in it. Its too pale and gray, make the lights glow and give off more light perhaps? I think that could create a better mood

  • Where should I go in Germany?

we we talk about modern design and modern art, it refers to the style the Bauhaus defined and influenced. Design and art from the about the 60'-70s onward art isn't really considered modern.

Its stupid I know, but modern doesn't mean contemporary, or present or recent, it means 40 years old

Thank you so much guys this really helps

Yea it looks I wont even stay a night in Frankfurt, just go from the airport to a train to somewhere south of it; perhaps Heidelberg or Stuttgart. Then head down somewhere into Bavaria like , and onto Erfut or Dresden and Berlin.

I would really like to go Hamburg and Cologne, but I think I wont have the time. but then again the trains are fast.

...still got lots of planning to do, so thanks for the help

hey its the benefits of an international community

Ive only been to San Fransisco which was awesome. Walk around downtown, embarcadero etc.

Walk (or drive) down this thing: (my pic)

    [Blocked Image: http://jonathanmonaghan.com/photo/sanfran02.jpg]

Walk onto the golden gate bridge, you don't have to walk across the whole thing because there is not much on the other side, just out to the center and back.

Coit tower was fun, the hilly streets are fun too:

Come to NY and then I can really tell you what to do

    Wow, thanks guys! good info

Steppenwolf, I will certainly be looking into those places you've mentioned. I am looking to experience Germany but not do touristy stuff, I think a number of the places you mentioned should not be tourist havens, so thanks a bunch!

  • 3dsMax or Maya?

    • Vinny Testaverde
    • November 22, 2007 at 6:08 PM

They are the same thing really. I have been working intensively with 3dsmax for about 5 years now. I worked with Maya back when it was Maya 4 and I am now taking an intensive course in Maya. I can say that everything I could do in Max I can do in Maya, and vice versa.

I find what it comes down to is that Maya is best for group/studio projects and Max is better for the individual.

But of course specialty comes into play because of the slight differences, so here is my quick run down:

    Modeling: Max

    Animating: Maya

    Arch/Design Viz: Max by far

    Animation/Character Rendering: Maya

    Softbody/dynamics: Maya

    Level Design/Other game stuff: Max

    particles: Max

    Fluids/effects: Maya

But again either one can do everything

    Hello all,

I want to start a discussion about this so called "toy." Call me crazy but I see a lot of potential for really interesting experiments...

    so has anyone tried it?

and if anyone knows information about making something with it, as in a sdk or something, please tell

I think it would be better if you go as the actually box. Just make it bigger and cut holes out for your legs arms and head.

    just my 2 cents

Like anything, sitting there with a blank page is the worst thing you can do. Like most people it seems like your afraid of making something bad. If you can't come up with something good, then just come up with something bad, and then work with that from there, or throw it away and start again.

Its not just about inspiration or motivation, its about working with what you got. trust me just draw a bad level, then scrap draw another bad one. then you might get into a zone, you might learn things then the good ideas will flow

I think you should print them out large scale. They seem like they would work well in the real world on a big scale. I'm talking 6 feet wide, the bigger the better

You can get large prints fairly cheap, might be something to look into
