I think a lot of the GRAW levels would be applicable here. The treasury multiplayer map, especially, has some great moments where one or two roof snipers can cover a large area and help coordinate friendlies at street level.
Also, the Sniper Scope arcade games seem like #1 in a nutshell. Almost all of the levels are as you described.

Last time I had talked to him, he had retired from video game devlopment (this was about 2 years ago).

I'm reading Jpod, by Douglas Coupland right now. I think most of you would like it since it's about working in the video game industry. It's a pseudo-follow up to his book Microserfs which was written in the 1990s about working for (and quitting) Microsoft.

If I got mad at people for putting out bullshots, I'd barely be able to play any commercial games. Fibbing is just part of the game.

Bit of a nothing feature if you ask me. If I care about a game that allows downloadable content, then I'll check for it. Hell, with things like steam update news or games auto-updating on Xbox Live, plenty is already being done in this department. Sure it's quite nice that it does it all when your console is off, but not what I'd call a key feature in the upcoming console war.
Yeah, but its one thing to update your platform with new content. It's another thing to update a completely different platform through your console. To me this is a killer app because it actually gets me to touch my system more often, just to see what new fun shit I can play.

Quote"Let's say your Wii is connected to the Internet in a mode that allows activation on a 24-hour basis. This would allow Nintendo to send monthly promotional demos for the DS, during the night, to the Wii consoles in each household. Users would wake up each morning, find the LED lamp on their Wii flashing, and know that Nintendo has sent them something," Iwata explained. "They would then be able to download the promotional demo from their Wii's to their Nintendo DS's. This will, of course, be possible in gaming stores too, but I think users will enjoy being able to do this within their homes. The key merit here is having promotional material delivered to your home, instead of having to go collect it yourself."
Let's take this a step farther. Let's say you have a DS game that involves customization or collecting things (Animal Crossing, Pokemon, any RPG or adventure really). You could turn it on in your living room and your Wii would say "Oh hey, you just got the new RPG game. Cool." then a few days later, you turn on your Wii and get a nice little message that says "Hey, thanks for buying our new RPG game, we hope you like it. Here's a Level 20 foam cowboy hat. Turn on your DS and we'll download/unlock it for you."
Take that Sony.

I'm moving this to political. Not because I'm trying to slight the thread or anything, but because it's dealing with politics.

I vote for the uncompiled ones. They show spunk.

There is a large difference between studios that burn through talent, and studios that try to cultivate talent. Yeah, both places you're going to have to crunch, but at the good studios, you are appreciated, becasue they know as long as you stay happy, they don't have to bother hiring, moving, and training somebody new. Whereas other studios (many in the EA family), are more happy to burn you out like a match because they have no interest in seeing you progress. They can hire a lot of new blood to make the next Harry Potter game and nobody will be the wiser.

RHCP went downhill after Blood Sugar Sex Magik.

Yeah, Nintendo isn't very creative with their pricing. They've launched the N64 and GC at the same price point and brought that price point down at pretty much the same intervals ($200 at holiday season, $179 at following E3). Give it three years and it will be $99.
-
Based upon previous launches, I was fully expecting a $230-250 price range for the first year or so with it going down to $175-200 for the Holiday 2007 season.

putting smoke in your lungs is not a good idea. it's right up there with pouring salt in your eyes.
