they are both different engines with different strengths . . . hl2 focuses on scriptability and versatility, doom focuses on classic hallway shooting with pretty lighting. Does this make one engine vastly superior to the other? Well I suppose it depends on what kind of game you are trying to make.
I'm surprised we are still having these arguments.
so who is going to be the first person to come out with a d3 map with completley custom content? Thats what I really wanna see.
bravo. I couldn't believe this was the hl engine when I first saw it. spotlighted and thumnailed.
this is what the spotlight gallery and front page thumbnails were built for.
I want one.
ummmmmmmmmmm
hl2 can do like 3 of those things in that demo.
but the demo is really cool
If you have played it, what are you impressions of Doom III?
I DEMAND PICS

I've had this for the last 3 days and I haven't booted it up yet.
ID is one of the lucky few developers that worked thier way up to becoming an established name that can call thier own shots without having to be subserviant to publishers, I wouldn't consider their situation to be on par with the average game developer.
I realize this sounds a bit strong, but it's something I feel very strongly about. Anyways I totally hijacked your thread zuno, I'm sorry. Feel free to ignore my rant.
now can you predict the % of those sales that go back to the developers stuck in digital serfdom, and the % that go to some bumfuck in a suit who's only contribution to the game was reading 8 emails and attending a meeting, so he can buy a new boat. God bless america and capitalism to make this RIAA-esque industry possible.
sorry, I'm a little hung over and ill-tempered this morning.
wut teh fuk is doom3?
what days are these when 3ds newbs still know how to make a brazil render
looks good though, maybe a bit of texture stretching on the supports?
It would be really hard to go back to using a single monitor for work.
