It was really more like an hour for each month of "real, on-track" development, due to several really fucked up management fiascos.

    It's a renter.

  • I'd like to see Mapcore grow.

I don't think you can really just decide to "grow" any internet community like this. Sure, you could spam a ton of advertising around, and maybe get a bunch of people to register, but 95% of them won't even re-visit the site again. The best you can really hope for in my opinion is to keep posting, and telling people who have good work on other sites to try putting thier stuff up on mapcore as well. The site will grow naturally according to how much content / quality is up that people are interested in. It's kind of like a plant, you can bury a seed and water it, and it will grow to however big your pot is, and how much sunlight it gets. The only time you really have to worry about it is when it's outgrowing it's pot and you need to put it in a bigger one.

just make sure you collect a tidy sum from it, they are paying you for the work + the money to live on in between contracts.

BF2 is the bee's knees fo shizzle. First game in 6 months to tear me away from WoW (thank god) All the new squad and commander stuff is awesome, being part of squad SABOTAGE, and spawning ontop of your leader hidden in the enemy base and tosing C4 left and right is quite a rush. All the fun of 1942 and DC, with just a little bit extra zest. Nothing revolutionary, but why fix something thats not broken.

  • Online distribution

The online distribution of games is a pretty trvial part of the puzzle. It's the funding needed to get the game made in the first place that is the crutch right now. It's not that independant developers can't afford to get a game out there to the market, they just can't afford to get it made without the help of a publisher. Buying most games online right now probably wouldn't help matters at all - you are still going to be buying them through the publisher. It's only in the cases of things like steam and this xStream thing where the game has been self-funded where you are actually getting money to the developers.

I don't feel like driving to the crappiest city on earth with the crappiest traffic on earth to walk through a giant commercial all day. E3 is like walking through a maze with standing room only that is lined with televisions all playing a different commercial at full volume. It's neat to go the first couple times though, the novelty of the glitz and glamour and cool looking booths is worth going every once in awhile. I'll catch all the info I want this year online.

zaphod how do you seemingly so easily pick up and move? I mean I had trouble finding myself a house, lease, move in times, blah blah blah. How do you do it all!?!?! After college trying to find a simple job and getting there seems like a daunting task already.

you just have to be an adult and know somebody with a truck. Not that hard really.

Also this was a move back to my home town where I grew up, from only about an hours distance north, so it really wasn't that big of a deal.

It helps to have nice parents and friends to help you with that kind of thing.

Hey guys, just wanted to let anybody interested know that I'm back at work, at Midway in San Diego. I'm lighting/polishing levels for the new Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows game. The best part is I'm living back in my home town , and I only have a 15 minute commute.
