ok first and foral i want to make my exusers 4 my previous topic

    i asked to much

but i want to thank them to for there links now i can work with hammer

but i can't make water (lol)

no it is water but it has a reflection of the beginpoint of the water and the end it stays thesame al the time

it isn't like in those cs source maps

i don't know how to make that

    this is what i do

first i make an bruch that would be my water

then i make it have the nodraw texture

i select the upper part of mij bruch with application tool

and give it the water texture (cheap or expensive they al mirror the same)

    after that i put a env_cubemap and with alt+enter --> brush faces-->pick

i clik on the water surface

(and then i place a water lod contol)

and press f9 to run it but the water is ugly

    not as in other maps

    i don't know what i'm dun wrong

    could someone help me please

    thanx

Try typing "buildcubemaps" in the console once the map is loaded in CS:S or HL2 or whatever.

just put a block of water down. Don't use any nodraw textrues, cubemaps, or other sillyness.

Surely that is hugely wasteful? I wouldn't think it wise to cover faces with materials that use expensive shaders like water unless they are actually meant to be using them. Cubemaps are hugely important as they capture the images used for specularity and reflection (though this might actually just be done by re-rendering the world, particularly with more detailed graphics settings). I don't think you can just put it all down to "silliness".
