The way I understand is that it will feature games, that you will neither find in a retail store nor on Steam. Legit question: No retail stores - ok, but why not on Steam when going for the digital download approach? The best guess probably is that it will feature a price model that is tailored for indie developers. Steam already has an established userbase, due to the amount of products available, but don't understimate the competition on the platform for ads and links in the network. It might be more profitable to put your game on a platform that specifically targets your indie game audience, than drowning in the masses of titles which you can find in any retail store.

The Greenhouse is a new distribution platform operated by Greenhouse Interactive, dedicated to supporting independent game development worldwide. We help indie developers get their games into the hands of gamers, and that gives gamers easy access to new and innovative games that they might otherwise have missed.

Sounds like they will be quite selective about what titles they are going to offer, in a indie game distributor kind of way.

A digital distribution platform for independent games.

I thought about something like this last year, too bad I never got to work on it. Bleh! Anyway kudos to PA for spending their famous comic strip creator bux into a new company:

Fight games can sport ads in their arenas, racing games can have that a lot more than they already do, sports games are ads magnets, and any other game in a realistic modern era environment is fair game. Doesn't leave us with much. I'm just surprised we haven't seen a ton more in GTA so far.

I could imagine the reasons for this being is the "bad reputation" of GTA in mass media. Nobody likes to read articles about your company advertising in "new mass murder simulator". Obviously these people also don't perceive GTA as a satire but as dead serious and don't get the humor displayed in ingame world ads (if you watch the first GTA4 trailer, you can see there are plenty of those in the new game as well).

Good that nobody would ever blow up depleted uranium....oh wait - Iraq? Entirely different story I guess, but also sad...

Yeah, if nuclear reactors or nuclear waste disposals become targets of military strikes, and that's very likely to happen in a war, where especially one party likes to break the boundaries, we're all screwed.

    Quote

You can't have a meltdown without the fuel rods hitting critical mass, something that modern day reactors are not very likely to ever see. Not to mention that's not an issue when you are storing depleted fuel rods. The only danger in storing the waste material is if someone was to break in and steal some and then make a dirty bomb out of it, which in the end would cause more hysteria than environmental damage. Which is why storing it in one big place is safer.

Something can always happen. Always. It doesn't matter if it's a meltdown like in Chernobyl or something else. People are going to pay for it. Nuclear reactors are a huge risk.

Actually I meant depleted uranium used on bullet shells to penetrate heavy amor. The shit is inhaled by soldiers and civilians alike and causes birth defections. Agent Orange anyone? But you might also have a point, I'm just not sure what kind of bomb it takes to damage a modern age nuclear power plant, those things are pretty tough.

Interesting point e-freak - if you don't believe in any god is that a belief too, in a paradox way? I agree it bares the danger of setting this "disbelief" above other people's beliefs, making them seem less educated and naive, which creates conflict as well.

In a perfect world WITH religion, everyone would just believe in whatever he wants to believe in AND LET OTHERS BELIEVE what they want to believe in. The inherent problem of any religion though is that there is one creator, one right way of life and all other religions are wrong. This causes conflict among the different religious groups and between religious people and any other person that is non-conformist to their way of life/set of rules. Of course the majority of religious preachers and followers are probably very peaceful in the way they practice their religion, but there will always be extremists, who make use of fear, hate, violence and influence others to do the same.

In my humble opinion, everyone is welcome to believe in what they wanto to, I'm trying hard not to judge anyone, but look back in history - or better yet, scratch that, don't - just drop whatever god you believe in right now, use your common sense, live life they way YOU want to, make the world a place that YOU and your children would want to live in and don't let others tell you on what to do or not to do - make up your own mind about what is right or wrong and don't waste your time. There is my religion. OOPS!

i don't think it's so much about atheism or islam or christianity (i call myself christian) but about the freedom of speech and the question why we don't allow a movie that deals about islam with such an opinion and on the other hand allow far more onesided movies about every other religion, group or ideology.

Because in other religions you don't have so many nutcases killing completely uninvolved civilians for anti-islamic messages. Nobody disallows Wilders to release such a film, but he was "asked not to" because he just pours gas into the fire. What kind of message is this that he delivers in this film, or better yet - what solutions does he offer? "Defend our freedom"? Am I supposed to tear down a mosque now, because extremist preachers might hide inside? Or attack women wearing a burqa?

I wish we could just forget about religions all together and come up with some standards on how all of us can live together peacefully.

Also, depleted uranium is not THAT dangerous unless it you inhale dust when it is incenerated/exploded/etc. Not trying to underplay its' toxicity but it is nowhere as dangerous as u235.
