They still appear when you hover over usernames and/or go into someone's profile, but having just taken a quick look at the old forums I see we used to display both post counts and registration dates so perhaps I can restore those now some of the other clutter has been taken out. Anyone else miss post counts and/or registration dates?

I kinda think it's a bit harder to distinguish between posts now. Is there a way to make every other post a slightly different colour (like a blue colour), to further distinguish between posts? I think I've seen that on some forums before.
Either that or just some sort of outline to keep the posts separate? I think the League of Legends forums does it well: http://euw.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=867474
Hopefully that's a bit better now? I still need to do some tweaking of colours and such as I agree some tones are a little light right now, particularly now I'm looking at it on my work monitor which is a bit less forgiving of subtle shades. I'll revisit it this evening to ensure posts are clearly distinguished.
Quote from moroesI don't know if it's the right topic to talk about this but in my resolution (1200px * 1600px) the forum can't be fully visible.
Here is a screen to show you how I'm seeing it :
Ah, not really tested too much on that kind of vertical resolution. I'll look into making the minimum width the forum accepts a bit smaller, and also the sidebar toggle option will probably make things more comfortable for you.

Removing some of the profile clutter is definitely OK, that's what I did with the last forums actually but it's not something I've gotten round to yet. I'll condense it to just the usernames, avatars, and job/location info.
I'm not convinced avatar sizes need to be messed around with as they've pretty much just been taken from the sizes they were before, and unless I re-process all the images again which takes ages and kills the server existing ones will remain the same size as they were imported. If others raise this as an issue I'll look into it though.
Anyone else who has things to suggest by all means do, as I'll be referring to this thread and the announcement post when trying to figure out what to improve.

hey how easy is it to make a new theme for this software, i feel like we need some options
It's hard enough maintaining customisations and features with a single theme, so there's no plan for additional themes at this time. This is just a foundation however, so there are certainly going to be changes as time goes on and specific issues are brought up. Refinements already on the list:
- Potential rethink of how forums are shown on the home page, so instead of being a conventional long list they could be shown side by side (at least on larger screens)
- Toggle to hide sidebar
- More sidebar content to increase usefulness (latest comments, statuses, etc)

Just realised I've got an Xbox LIVE name.

Sweet concept. If it had better graphics and were more gritty I might spend £1 on it.

I guess it's fair enough to miss parts of the game, as a remake it's always going to be held up against its predecessor. I can barely remember that chapter so I'll see if the pacing feels off when I eventually get to it (I am shit at games lol???).
-
I don't even remember that chapter yet I remember most of HL1, so it must have been pretty weak.
What kind of stuff have we missed due to the cut? -
So. Went out drinking in Nottingham on Saturday, and had my fuckin' phone pickpocketed.

Was only a few months old, and as I'd just installed a new version of Android on it was yet to fully set up any security apps, and I'd just not gotten round to setting a password (like I've had for years).

On the bright side, all this iPhone 5 and Lumia 920 shit was making me start to wish I'd waited so now I can probably get a new one on insurance. But shieeeet, never taking a nice phone out like that again. Was an absolute nightmare having to change all my passwords, lock down my emails, etc — when I started thinking about it, my phone was a portal to a crazy amount of personal data and accounts. They could even have deleted MapCore if they'd been fast enough!

It definitely depends on the game design. I can't imagine something like Uncharted without regenerating health simply because the game is almost impossible at times as it is, and it helps to keep the game's pace snappy rather than adopting an ultra-conservative approach because you're afraid to get hit. I guess the problem could be alleviated by providing crazy amounts of health, perhaps when enemies die — but that's not going to change the flow much.
For something like Half-Life or Metal Gear Solid where it's more about survival it's an absolute must to have old-fashioned health. I love the fact that in such games games you just don't know how long it is until the next bit of health, and when some ridiculous enemy comes along when you're already running low it provides the ultimate 'FFFFFUUUUU'.

Have any mainstream places been reviewing BM:S, out of curiosity? Would be interested to see what the 'pros' think as all I've seen so far is forum anecdotes. I've never really seen the big sites reviewing mods and stuff, but this seems like they kind of thing they should make an exception for. Of course even if they do they might wait until the final complete release (leading to a second wave of hype and players if the team play their cards right), but I figure it'd be more useful for the team to hear their criticisms earlier than that.
So far issues I've seen come up a lot include the grunts not feeling right, the clipping, a lack of player direction at times, the difficulty being a little unbalanced (primarily due to weapon handling it seems), and a lack of visual polish in some areas. They seem like relatively simple things to fix for the next big release, so hopefully that's what we'll get — this deserves to be the definitive, ultra-polished version of HL1 and I hope the team sees the value in continuing to make it the best it can be even after the huge wave of hype it's currently attracting.

":241d0ds9]With that being said, criticism is very important, so I hope the peeps the worked on it doesnt take it the wrong way, criticism is crucial so listen to it so you can do it better next time, although take it with a grain of salt because the internet is the internet.

I think in this particular case the criticism is more important than ever, because although BM:S currently seems to be a splendid reimagining of Half-Life 1 it's not yet complete — there's still Xen to come, along with the opportunity to tidy up bits of the existing experience. So hopefully the guys are keeping in mind most people are loving the game, but not completely writing off the criticisms that're also being aired.
I think most people can live without the cut areas, but at the very least it's worth looking into the many smaller criticisms because it's the little touches that make the difference between nailing the Valve feel and not, to steal someone else's quote.

Thx for the info guys!Any reason to get a 720x1280 display instead of something like 540 x 960 which is sometimes used on 4" displays? (Wanna keep the screen as small as possible)
Do all apps still work on all resolutions? Convenience issues?
Apps usually work fine on all resolutions as the aspect ratios are fairly uniform. It's worth noting that newer phones have what Apple pretty much debuted as a 'retina display', which basically means the resolution is so high you can't see the individual pixels and everything has a paper-like smoothness. It does make a big difference if you spend a lot of time looking at your phone so is worth looking out for. All the newer flagship models tend to come with it.

Wonder if some of the cut areas will be put back in now that they've had such a fantastic response to the game. I'm guessing it must be a real motivator seeing how much people are enjoying it.
