hey how easy is it to make a new theme for this software, i feel like we need some options

It's hard enough maintaining customisations and features with a single theme, so there's no plan for additional themes at this time. This is just a foundation however, so there are certainly going to be changes as time goes on and specific issues are brought up. Refinements already on the list:

    • Potential rethink of how forums are shown on the home page, so instead of being a conventional long list they could be shown side by side (at least on larger screens)
    • Toggle to hide sidebar
    • More sidebar content to increase usefulness (latest comments, statuses, etc)

    Alright. Thanks for the explanation.

    Can I make some requests?

Remove "Veteran/Regular/Administrator" tags; remove the little dots (where it says Admin for you and just *** for the rest of us); and remove post count; shrink avatar size by 25%.

This will raise the quality of the entire forum by 7 points.

Removing some of the profile clutter is definitely OK, that's what I did with the last forums actually but it's not something I've gotten round to yet. I'll condense it to just the usernames, avatars, and job/location info.

I'm not convinced avatar sizes need to be messed around with as they've pretty much just been taken from the sizes they were before, and unless I re-process all the images again which takes ages and kills the server existing ones will remain the same size as they were imported. If others raise this as an issue I'll look into it though.

Anyone else who has things to suggest by all means do, as I'll be referring to this thread and the announcement post when trying to figure out what to improve.

I kinda think it's a bit harder to distinguish between posts now. Is there a way to make every other post a slightly different colour (like a blue colour), to further distinguish between posts? I think I've seen that on some forums before.

Either that or just some sort of outline to keep the posts separate? I think the League of Legends forums does it well: http://euw.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=867474

Liam is once for right, its harder to see the boundaries than on the old forum layout, makes it hard to read quickly.

I don't know if it's the right topic to talk about this but in my resolution (1200px * 1600px) the forum can't be fully visible.

Here is a screen to show you how I'm seeing it :

Hopefully that's a bit better now? I still need to do some tweaking of colours and such as I agree some tones are a little light right now, particularly now I'm looking at it on my work monitor which is a bit less forgiving of subtle shades. I'll revisit it this evening to ensure posts are clearly distinguished.

Ah, not really tested too much on that kind of vertical resolution. I'll look into making the minimum width the forum accepts a bit smaller, and also the sidebar toggle option will probably make things more comfortable for you.

I actually want post counts. ;(

They still appear when you hover over usernames and/or go into someone's profile, but having just taken a quick look at the old forums I see we used to display both post counts and registration dates so perhaps I can restore those now some of the other clutter has been taken out. Anyone else miss post counts and/or registration dates?

Also the quick-reply thing is hella nice, I've made so many posts already, its like a neural-net hookup straight into my brain department.

Yeah, that's much better! Nice work Thrik.

I do really like these new forums btw. Great work.

    it's not.

edit: i didn't notice the bar. it helps, but would be even easier with different colored/contrast post bg

what is the purpose of post count and registration date?

    bg color -> alternate between

    #BFEFFF and

#C3E4ED or similar, instead of white plx. also smaller margins between avatar, post div and frame?

also not sure why the text fucks like this

also let's actually use articles for something worthwhile instead of just having reviews of games there.

I keep overlooking the Next and Prev-buttons, they blend too much. Sure, something one gets used to probably, but it would be nice to have it more in the face.

All good stuff guys, all suggestions will be considered and implemented where appropriate.

Sentura, as the announcement article suggests there're definitely a lot of plans for the features. I'll be setting those who've expressed interest in writing up with access to a dedicated forum shortly (I've literally not had time as was up until bedtime last night finishing simply converting all the data across). If anyone else is interested in writing, be sure to PM me.

Sentura, your post seemed to messing up due to the alignment being set to 'right', this can happen if pasting from elsewhere. Note that a button in the top left of the post editor allows you to switch to plain BBCode and see what's actually going on.

I think I'm liking it so far, great work . The sidebar with features and whatnot is interesting (some of these articles were written in June? If we had those with the old forums I had no idea they existed). To some degree I think they also feel a bit redundant to the tabs directly under the main title image. Maybe removing the sidebar and throwing Tutorials next to the others would get the same function? It could also give the main forum pane a bit more breathing room. There could be also a *NEW* or similar icon next to the features tab whenever there was a new one so that section just doesn't go unnoticed.

Man I'm really digging this new theme, very easy to read and browse, awesome shit!

My only gripe with the current skin is the top banner which looks pretty large and distracting, I made a quick mockup of how I think it could looK squashed down a little:
