Well, it wouldn't be the first time a Ubi studio has blown my mind. We already forgotten how stunning Assassin's Creed was towards the beginning of the last generation — mostly because of the scale and attention to detail?

I dunno, never say never. I mean it looks great, but not ridiculously and impossibly so. If programmers back in the 80s could accomplish big feats with the technology they had, why not the engine developers of today? It's about time we saw some 'surely not' kind of graphics. Could Crytek finally be knocked off the perch of graphics domination?!

Well, we'll see. Pity we've got to wait so long for this. Q4 2014? Shieeeeet.

If I remember correctly, the high-resolution face textures was a big thing about Max Payne. I recall magazines, etc going crazy over how good it looked way before it actually came out.

Seriously though, I'm hyped as fuck for this. I love the concept of the story and gameplay, and I'm getting excited just thinking about what kind of insane stuff Remedy is going to be able to do with it. And the fact that it's the Max Payne developers making a game all about time manipulation... well, fuck.

BC2 was all right. BF3 and especially BF2142 were better.

So the beta for this game has just started.

I'd never heard of it before but I'm now interested because of its sheer ambition. I don't think I can sum up the game better than its Wikipedia article, but to me it looks like it's essentially a 2D version of Minecraft — except it's a whole universe that's procedurally generated, the gameplay is much more in-depth, it has dungeons and missions, it fuses fantasy and sci-fi, and it has social multiplayer.

It's apparently similar in some ways to Terraria, if that means anything to anyone. Probably better to just watch this:

I haven't played BF4 yet but it looks to me like it's a lot more vehicle-friendly? I remember BF3 got a lot of criticism when it came out for having too many small maps, it only really made everyone happy when they started adding more. I personally love the vehicle stuff so I found BF3 boring after a while and spent 99% of my time on Caspian Border and Operation Firestorm because they were the closest to the maps in BF2 and BF2142, but even they were a bit small.

Anyway, every Battlefield game has been a bit of a fuck up at launch IMO. BF3's balance was pretty much completely overhauled during the few months after it came out, so if you're pissed off with it maybe just come back in a while rather than totally making yourself hate it by continuing to play it.

    Quote from Nerve

I've had an Xbox since the original and I love them, but I'm seriously considering a PS4 at the minute. I don't like the new dashboard at all and the kinect/tv stuff is just completely gimmicky to me as I don't think it works or is implemented well enough for people to adopt it. The only thing I like is the controller.

This is all going from what I've seen and heard though, I haven't had a proper hands on with either console yet.

    What should I do?

    Get a hands on. :s

I don't think it's possible to read much into hardware sales this early. AFAIK both are selling out everywhere, which means that the total sold is going to pretty much come down to how many consoles Microsoft and Sony can actually make. :s

I generally go with VGChartz for such information, but right now it looks like a lot of data is missing from European vendors so it's impossible to get a real idea until all that starts coming out. This is what they have for now though (I think this is just US numbers as if you dig deeper the Europe numbers are empty):

My personal prediction is that during the launch window, both consoles will sell fairly evenly in the US — or the Xbox One might do slightly better because it's a US console. In Europe, I expect the PS4 to do significantly better. We'll see in a few months though.

I think so. After the awesome original two Broken Sword games, adventure games kind of died as a genre. Two not-so-great 3D sequels were made largely as a cash-in by the publishers, and most of the development team was gone. Even big fans of the series didn't like those so much, myself included.

This new game is a return for a lot of the original team, and of course the original designer. They know a lot of people didn't like/play the later games so it's a self-contained story, although fans of the classics will obviously enjoy it more as there'll be lots of references and some revisited locations.

PS: If this game disappoints me I will be building a team of assassins. All interested parties please sign below.

Dude, it's out in three days! I backed this ages ago, and while the development updates have been a bit worrying at times it looks like the end result is going to be really sweet.

I was originally really sceptical about the 2D/3D hybrid, but after adjusting their shaders and style fuckloads of times it looks like they got it. They just need to put new screenshots out now that show the current style because the existing stuff is all alpha shit. I guess they'll be hitting sites with shots/videos soon.

Apparently because they exceeded their goal so much the game was split into two, with one coming out in December and one early next year. It's all one game I guess, but they say each half is the length of the previous Broken Sword games so who can complain?

I used to love the original two Broken Sword as a kid, seriously the best adventure games out there right below Monkey Island 1–3 and Grim Fandango. With Double Fine's Broken Age coming out next year it's a pretty awesome time for adventure game fans again.

I love how they've updated the classic Nico's apartment, tickling my nostalgia bones:

lol. To be fair, with PC gaming having been handicapped by conforming to console requirements for years we are now seeing a considerable jump forward. I certainly haven't seen some of the stuff going on in Killzone in any PC game I've played recently, although Battlefield 4 is the closest I've seen to a truly 'next gen' experience because the world is so damn alive.

Get out your wallets everyone! I did tip Kotaku, Destructoid, and Joystiq about this too (as well as posted it on the MapCore Facebook and Twitter). For whatever reason those gaming sites won't post it, yet some of the bullshit they do post about toilets in Japan or whatever the fuck...
