Considering the length of time that it takes him to output episodes as it is, I think I'm probably glad that he does.

Yeah, that's why it's called bandwidth theft.

Most casual sites only have around ~60GB of traffic per month to burn (although that may be a bit generous as the actual average is probably a lot lower), with every 1mb image you post for example taking away 1mb from that total.

Granted, it's getting better and web hosts are increasingly giving out a lot more bandwidth for your buck, but right now it's best to avoid it as you can seriously bum somebody in the gob if you post a large image on a very popular forum and they end up exceeding their bandwidth.

Some hosts even charge you for excess instead of just cutting you off, which means you can drill into their pockets too.

Yeah, for sure. Have you watched The IT Crowd? It's a six-series show that just ran here and is available on YouTube where Morris was a fairly prominent character as the boss of the company. It's had a fairly 50/50 audience rating here (although enough for a 2nd series to be commissioned it seems), but most Americans I've spoken to seem to love it - maybe because the style of humour isn't so common there? Not sure. I personally liked it.

I really hope that Steve Coogan is used in a way similar to his Alan Partridge role, as seen here (he's the interviewer):

I stopped playing just before the Wake Island patch came out, but before that it took absolutely ages to get into the game, and computer power didn't seem to have much difference.

It actually loaded the map and whatever really quickly, it was the "verifying data" which then took multiple minutes. It was also generally stressful just using that God forsaken server browser, which ultimately led to me just not wanting to bother.

I doubt that they're fake, primarily because not only would faking something like that just be retarded, but also because those particular 3D paintings wouldn't be that difficult to produce if you do indeed have a projector giving you direct guidance as suggested. I am impressed a lot more by those street pavement images where the artist has obviously spent a lot of time working out the shading and angles needed to produce a 3D-looking image.

Sure, if they were extremely complex images with loads of detail I might suspect them of being fake, but the detail on these could be outputted by pretty much anybody if given a projector and some ladders. As for it only working from one angle... well that's the point. It couldn't be any other way.

    Haha, same. xD

It starts off a bit slow, but it becomes wholly hilarious after a while, and ties into the original HL2 storyline quite cleverly at times. Read it at peril of murder.

I'm not convinced that you're right, Hourences. There seems to be a strong "We must look professional and perfect!" mentality amongst modders at the moment, which is a shame as pretty much none of these gain even a slight bit of popularity.

If you look at any successful mod, and this includes CS:S, DOD:S, Natural Selection and Garry's Mod, they all had many versions - a good portion of which were public betas. Their popularity grew as they made the most successful elements in the game better and better, however with the exception of NS they were all completely barebone mods and were "buggy prototypes" generally created around just one initial concept.

So, no, getting it right and releasing a perfect and polished mod on your first release isn't important to players. Releasing a fun game is. All the flash and glory can come later once you've actually proven your worth. Sadly most modders right now try to do this the other way around and fall flat onto their faces.

Not to say that a mod team who really know what they're doing couldn't potentially work for ages on a mod and then release it in one big shitstorm as Insurgency is presumably aiming to. I guess we'll soon see whether or not it'll work.

No, not at all. It's been proven that a lot of men have a distinct, genuine taste for girls of below average attractiveness due to various psychological issues relating to attainability and self-perception.

  • Whats ur opinion about teh iran shit ?

    • February 6, 2006 at 1:13 AM

as a person with many iranian friends i need to object to this insulting.. im sorry but its just not on

they are not all osama bin laden and they do not all have nukes in their back gardens.. alot them are just ordinary PEOPLE like you and me, albeit a bit different looking. making all these sweeping generalizations is just asking for trouble and imo you need to give it a rest

okay, there is no doubt that having nukes is not a good thing for them and it could spell some serios war in the future, but sitting posting big posts taking the mick out of it isnt the way forward is it...

well, i dont think itd be very good if they did get nukes because i mean it could cause all sorts of trouble..... and not only that but isnt the world supposed to be disarming

it should be nipped in the bud and stopped because the only thing that is going to come out of this is mutually assured destructing heh

I didn't think HL2 was short or boring at all. Yeah, so perhaps it wasn't as long as HL1, but the relative variety in surroundings and whatnot made up for that. You were constantly seeing new stuff.

HL2 was a fantastic game and far better than many other FPS titles which have done the rounds prior and since. It was never going to match the "wow" factor of HL1 since the latter set the groundwork for an entire subgenre and pretty much defined the principles which HL2 and many other games were built around, but it was still a great achievement and one of the better gaming experiences in my life.

I guess HL2 could be considered short if you flew through it without paying any attention to anything and did it all in a few sittings.
