Yeah, the first shot is my favourite. It's relatively rare to get such vibrant beauty in an RTS. I'm less impressed by the more monotone space-like environments, though. Hopefully plenty of the former! ![]()

Depends on the RTS, mabufo. I'm very similar to you in that I also don't really enjoy them when they're absolutely teeming with activity, but it really depends on the game.
Supreme Commander for example literally has hundreds of different types of units, and hundreds of them the map at once. I simply can't relax and have a good time with such an intensive amount of stuff going on.
Command & Conquer on the other hand also allows you to build as many units as you want, but there're less of them so it's much more manageable. Indeed, big clusters of the same unit are almost like a single unit.
Then you've got Company of Heroes which drills down into a much closer perspective, and gives you more control over individual units but you have much less of them as a result. I find this the epitome of enjoyable RTS gaming, with the tactics/strategy potential being really fun because of the closeness.
You can of course go even further into Commandos territory, where you basically control five guys throughout the whole game and have to keep them alive. Even detection is practically mission failure, making it like an RTS Metal Gear Solid.

I quite like the cartoon-ish look, and it'll probably scale well too.
That said, it looks a bit busy for me. I like my RTS games a bit more focused rather than swarming with a million units (lol Zergs). I suspect this won't be a game I'll enjoy much, though I'll inevitably get it.

I think it's going to be a while before anyone matches Valve's facial efforts. HL2's was good, but the new technology they showed in that Team Fortress 2 video blows the wind out of even that.

You can get a PS2 for such a small amount these days it's ridiculous. A new slim PS2 (the redesigned smaller version) could be had for less than £100 even a year ago, and the games can be found off sites like Amazon at excellent prices. And the console itself for that matter.
So many good games on it, you'd be crazy not to. All the ones mentioned in this thread so far, plus pick up Metal Gear Solid 3 while you're at it.
(It's a prequel to the other two so it doesn't matter if it's the first one you play.) -
That's exactly what Frie just pointed out, [HF]. Note how he edited it to "half a year before".

But yes, those videos are absolutely amazing. The hard as tits comment made me LOL when I first heard it, as well as the part when he gets hit in the cock with the kitchen roll.

Tourettes is actually nothing explicitly to do with profanity; swearing is simply a way that a minority of people exhibit the problem. Any kind of uncontrollable urge (although it can be temporarily restrained) to do something falls under the disorder, including stuff like eye twitches and various other habits (although people with Tourettes have an number of them).
This guy could have a form of the disorder, but I'm 99% sure he doesn't. The latest special episode where his dad comes to visit seems a lot more fakey than the older ones.

I was referring specifically to the several daft criticisms he gave (like the slow prone movement because it looks like "floor humping"), which seemed very much like someone intentionally just saying things to be a dick.
In fact, pretty much every post of Rick's has referred to the game being gay or faggy.
I think the real problem is that Rick is putting across his opinion in a slightly immature fashion, and it pisses me off dealing with people like that (especially when I know they're actually far more intelligent). Comments like "that makes all japanese people gay" are just ridiculous, and scream of somebody going out of their way to be an ass.
For a basic idea of what I mean, notice how most people don't absolutely saturate their posts with swearing and comparisons to gays when they're criticising something. It just makes it tedious for those trying to have a serious discussion.

You're totally entitled to your opinion. I just disagree with the majority of it and think that MGS2 was a pretty great game (largely with regards to gameplay), and MGS3 was even better than both predecessors combined.
I have to wonder if you're just trolling or not, because your criticisms in that post about MGS4 are seriously ridiculous. The "floor humping" is slow proned movement, the "gay little metal gear robot" is a reconnaissance device, the girlie magazines were in the past MGS games and are used as an enemy diversion, and the ball grabbing... okay, the ball grabbing was a bit weird. But the rest of the stuff is excellent from a gameplay perspective.
And it's not just set in the Middle East. It's set across the world, and will take part in Europe and America. Just like with the past games, only a very small part of it is shown in the pre-release media but you're led to believe you're seeing a lot more than you are (although with MGS2 this kind of backfired, making most people think it was Snake all the way through).
If you think it looks faggy, okay. Those of us who loved all of the past games will play it and love it regardless of whether or not you do.

I do find those comments somewhat humorous though as the series makes things involving Raiden, the blonde guy, a bit gay-ish on purpose. His grandfather (who looked the same) was depicted as the gay lover of the main villain in MGS3.

And of course, the last part of the MGS4 trailer was intentionally designed to look quite like an anal sex scene.
Kojima always injects some humour into the trailers that doesn't appear in the final game (like the "Grand Theft Auto" part of the old MGS3 trailer), although it goes over the heads of a lot of people.

FrieChamp works for Crytek and I assume he'd be aware of who the engine's licensed to.

Yeah, sticking to one place (or even a few) for reviews is risky business. I tend to use Metacritic as a good judge; search for the game, get the average score of dozens and dozens of respectable game sites.
-
I know this generally goes without saying Rick, but I feel it's worth pointing out anyway: not everyone agrees with you!

This will be the greatest game of 2007 for the PC, excluding Team Fortress 2, Gears of War, Crysis, Assassin's Creed, Kane & Lynch, and Call of Duty 4.

Postal is historically an absolutely abysmal game in my opinion, and I'll be very surprised if they can pull the gameplay of this version out of the gutter. I really can't even begin to describe just how little its wholly mindless gameplay appeals to me, and all signs point to a continuation.

Quote from ifO
Eh? About 2% of that looks like gameplay with non-existent transitions into cut-scenes. When it switches to him aiming his gun he still has that lame shuffle-y pivot. When did we stop bitching that we weren't seeing actual gameplay?
I think JamesL was slightly off the mark in labelling it a gameplay trailer, but as a traditional trailer it's fantastic.
We all know what Resident Evil is generally like and how it plays, and we all know the games have largely been top notch including RE4, so getting a good glimpse into the new environment the series is taking place in is far more interesting in my opinion.

They have done some great work with the engine (although it looks like crap in that screenshot), but I suspect the total absence of fun beyond an hour that plagued the last games will reappear.
Maybe I'm just too cultured to enjoy this series.

Yeah, good stuff. I actually think the YouTube version is more preferable to watch though as it looks kind of like ass in 1920x1200, while the low quality YouTube version smooths out all the glitches and shit.
All the bits of building and stuff look particularly poor (when they crumble, and the sky, etc), while on the YouTube version they look great.Although I am aware that 100% destroys the point of it being only 170kb or whatever.
