The layout actually looks more belonging to Team Fortress 2. There's a lot of inexplicible structure there that wouldn't exist in the real world, but is typical for TF2 design.

Gameplay-wise it may be a hoot, but this is a community that takes how maps look just as seriously (more seriously at times) as how they play. We can't really judge gameplay from screenshots.

You can actually do rounded wood like that, I've seen a video of it being done. You need to do stuff to the temperature and such so it dries like that, though.

Kind of rare though, so probably not suited to a typical street.

Isn't the Army kind of the last stop for a man with no other talents or desires in life? I mean, signing up to be killed seems like it.

    VAC bans are Steam-wide.

It seems Dux is saying that the OpenGL.dll can be picked up by VAC even if it's in another game mod's directory. If so, that's a little insane.

Yeah I agree, it looks washed out. Could you do you some sprite trickery to emphasise the lighting coming from the hole above, similarly to how the light shines through trees in Episode Two? You know, that beam-like effect.

Looks great though otherwise, and probably the highest-quality custom map I've seen yet. It's weird that not many people have been exploring the theme potential with TF2 custom maps, considering how much emphasis the official ones put on it (and consequently how cool it makes them).

The whole concept of secret Spy bases either hidden in existing buildings or built to look like normal buildings (wooden cows ;D) is awesome.

It does kind of look like ass in a lot of screenshots, but I guess there're limitations to how nice you can make something look considering how open and populated GTA generally is. Pretty much every 3D GTA game has looked inferior on a macro level to other games of the day. Usually the openness makes up for it.

I don't think San Andreas was shitty, even if it did need better missions. I thought it was really nice going through non-city environments, and small country towns. I'd really like to see more of that here, although I don't think we will.

Nobody posted this yet? A nice three-page feature on CGSociety which talks with Valve about the TF2 design process in quite some detail. Stuff that is briefly mentioned in the developed commentaries is expanded upon, and it is generally all interesting.

I did a search for 'fortress' and 'tf2' and found nothing on MapCore so if this has already been posted it is entirely your own faults.

Actually there is, steppenwolf. One GameSpot editor anonymously got in touch with one of the large gaming sites today (I forget which one -- I saw it at work), and another editor has blatantly alluded to it on his GameSpot-hosted blog.

Don't be naive. If this were all nonsense CNET and GameSpot would have outright denied it immediately. Heck, GameSpot has a 'rumour control' section that they regularly use to dispel industry rumours! This would have been on there immediately if 'bogus'. As it is they're almost certainly under NDA (or perhaps just threat of being fired) to not publicly disclose anything.

Where did you think the rumour came from in the first place? It's not like there's an announcement button they press whenever someone loses their job at GameSpot. Someone close let the info out.

Yes. I think it's incredibly unfortunate that the game has become known by pretty much everybody for this reason, and not because of the game itself. Now whenever you mention 'Kane & Lynch' a lot of people are going to immediately think of this scandal.

What worries me even more for IO's sake is how this might impact the sequel, and whether or not it actually goes ahead. This is a PR disaster of the highest magnitude, and a franchise being associated with that is not what a marketing manager is going to see as a good thing.

Certain LucasArts games have been cancelled much further into development for less thanks to marketing departments pushing for it.

Check out the GameSpot staff blogs for a start. I saw all this when I was at work so I have no idea what the links are now.

There's very little in the way of disagreement that this actually happened though. If there was there would have been a denial, not GameSpot editors writing about what happened and saying it's a disaster.

I dread to think of how culture in the GameSpot office has been affected by this. Imagine going from thinking you're working for an editorial where a good, informative opinion is what matters, to suddenly realising it's all driven by PR contracts and that your job is on the line if a publisher objects.

It's an atrocious state of affairs for GameSpot, and it's even more worrying that the attitude from publishers is that they this is normal, accepted, and fine. The industry seriously needs to look at other entertainment mediums and note how they've gotten past early problems like this (50+ years ago).

You'll find that most countries don't really know that much about other countries, with the exception of one or two. As such, comedy relating to other countries is invariably based on stereotypes and many jokes rely on ignorance.

Critically, people from those countries will very rarely find it funny.

It's already been confirmed. Other GameSpot editors have also attested to it, and indeed one was saying how when the guy got to work (he's been there for 10 years) he was simply locked out of his office and asked to leave the building.

    Pretty bad.
