  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Teaser

The ones from Infinity Ward have always been very exciting and generally excellent — kind of like when a new Half-Life game comes out. Unless you just don't like FPS games, I can't see how a new Infinity Ward Call of Duty game wouldn't excite you a bit.

I've never been hyped about the miscellaneous Call of Duty titles like World at War, though.

That's kind of cool, actually. I was thinking it didn't really look much like Max Payne in the previous games, but I guess it does.

It's an awesome concept, but I can't help but feel the technology just won't do it justice for some time yet. Considering that some people complain about the input delay between their console and their TV (which is minute but perceptible), what must it be like for a web connection? Especially if that connection is a little unstable like many are — at least, they are here.

I can see this becoming massive eventually, though. I think it's more a matter of when rather than if. I mean, let's imagine for a second that a huge company with almost infinite resources like Microsoft did something mental like overlook a relatively basic hardware design issue in a console they've sold millions of units of throughout the world. It'd be nice if they could just make those fixes on their end rather than having to replace consoles every time one exhibits the problem, both for Microsoft and for us.

Er? I suppose there was some bearded Jack, but I think the 24 comparison is more relevant.

(Plus series two of 24 came out years before Lost.)

Would be cool if they did something like the second series of 24 where he's all dishevelled, retired, and fucked up, but ultimately has to return to the job for some compelling reason. Then the Max Payne theme kicks in after the first chapter as he emerges from the bathroom after having a shave, and puts on his leather coat.

  • What is Crysis Warface!?

Yes, not impressive at all — not sure why they'd make such a big deal out of this. Just looks like CryEngine 2 with the settings reduced a lot. Someone want to get out the shots of Crysis with the settings bumped up beyond their normal limits via config files?

Maybe CryEngine C would have been more appropriate.

    It's not been next-gen since 2005, guys...

RAGE looks awesome. I love how colourful and vivid it looks, which is something I've almost had a burning thirst for in recent years thanks to all the grey/brown.

    I didn't say there was a problem.

it's just unlike me to take so long to play a game with such an excellent reputation (CoD4).

  • Unreal Engine 3 updates

I suppose Valve is so used to working with their editor they don't really mind dealing with the same shitty compilers and stuff. I'd imagine it falls into one of those "we'll get round to doing that eventually" piles that all businesses have, but because they don't really license the engine out that much anymore they just deal with it.

After all, if they're fine with it and the majority of other people using them are just fans who aren't paying Valve, what's the rush?

I have to say, while Valve makes some excellent games with their engine I seriously can't see any way in which it bests UE3. At first I thought all UE3 games kind of looked the same, but after games like Mirror's Edge — which had quite a Valve style to it IMO — it's impossible to say that. The engine seems to be capable of handling any style and has excellent editing tools, yet is a close cousin to Source and Hammer with regards to overall approach (ie: see Crysis for the opposite end of the spectrum).

I suppose what will keep people working with Source for a long time to come is the unbelievable games Valve produces with it (seriously the best), and the tight communities they have.

I guess the industry agrees, though. Source is pretty much a non-player on the engine licensing scene, whereas UE3 is out of control.

Been in development for years, but it's finally set to come out either late this year or early next year and has a 'trailer' out.

    http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/03/09/tra ... iniseries/

For those not familiar with it, it's essentially the spiritual sequel to the legendary Band of Brothers. It's based on another true story, will be comprised of 10 parts, is produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, has various key team members in common with Band of Brothers, has an epic budget for a TV series, and will presumably have Hollywood production values like Band of Brothers did.

You can call me wet with anticipation.

It's not the official trailer BTW, and was more of a little feature on some Australian TV show a month or so because the series was filmed there. So the mention of Australia isn't really relevant — the programme will depict war between the Japanese and the US.

Haha, I forgot about Studio. What an awesome map.

The LinkedIn resume you have is very thorough so I'm not sure if having it on your portfolio too is necessary, and it'd just be annoying to maintain in two different places. However, it might be an idea to just link the 'Contact' page straight to your LinkedIn page to avoid confusion, and perhaps change the link to 'Contact / Resume'.
