MapCore is on the same server so you'd better hope not. ![]()
I don't think it will, though. ![]()
Uh oh, look what I've got to give away:
I was thinking nuclear armageddon, personally. ![]()
Going off the 'About Us' bit it's just a gallery of slick case mods, not literally million-dollar PCs.
Some of them are pretty nice, I guess. Need more compact PCs like you'd put under your TV though. ![]()
Yeah, that's true — the NS2 armour does suit the general look of NS as I remember it.
I think to be honest this is a bit of a tangent anyway. My ranting is more on the general topic of how futuristic armour is represented in games, I don't want to give the impression that I hate the NS2 armour or anything. I just think the way some games have approached it seems much more believable, with Battlefield 2142 and Killzone 2 being other examples brought up in this thread that seem more in line with how I'd expect future military gear to look.
And yeah Erratic, the Nanosuit does look a bit gross with its complete muscle wrapping. I think it was inspired by MGS but then had the attempt to be realistic turned up and the stylisation turned down.
I would take it over yet more bulky space marines, though.
Yeah that's pretty much what I was getting at: the old-school bulky armour really does look old school, as in antiquated and out of date. I dunno, it just turns me off now it's featured in about 50,000 games during this last generation or so and was never particularly believable in the first place. ![]()
If you're asking me if I think the armours in games like MGS and Crysis look better than games like Gears of War and Natural Selection 2, then yes by a million miles. As I said though, the actual production of NS2's model is great.
I wasn't talking about MGS's style. I meant the way the armour sits quite close to the body and isn't particularly thick, and the same for Crysis. Those type of armours are where real armour is going, with soft/pliable material that's resistant to impact now becoming a reality.
All this thick metal stuff is how the 80s imagined the future.
Which is why I find it disappointing whenever I see a new game doing that kind of thing, just like 50,000 other games before it. Especially for a game I've always respected as exceedingly creative.
Dumb or not, at least they're more in line with what future armour will actually look like. ![]()
Yes I agree there, the tendency for most futuristic depictions of armour to be this big metal stuff is a bit weird and not particularly imaginative. While this new Natural Selection armour is very well made, I have to say it looks completely unoriginal to me and just makes of think of Quake and Halo. ![]()
I really like the kind of armour depicted in Metal Gear Solid and Crysis, in that they wrap quite closely to the skin/muscles and use cushioned reinforcement and stuff like that to stop penetration rather than inches of metal — kind of like that real-life flexible orange stuff the Ministry of Defence came up with recently (we had a thread about it I think).

Seems like a much more feasible armour of the future IMO, as flexibility and strength are what the military wants. ![]()
What, even if it dramatically makes the gameplay better? I'm as big a Battlefield fan as it gets, but I'm open to things like that if they make it more fun. ![]()
I'm very excited about the PC multiplayer aspect of this. Looks to be the closest thing to a Battlefield 3 we've had since 2142, and in fact it seems to have most of the central series' hallmarks (unlocks, huge maps, realistic, etc). Seems like there's no commander role though, which is a shame but I guess it doesn't make that much difference.
Not excited as I was about the news of an actual Battlefield 3's development, though.
Dunno if I'll get Bad Company 2 or wait for that — depends on when it's coming.
Yeah that CryEngine thing is amazing. Like the best fan art ever, except dynamic. ![]()
Looks awesome! And seems to be yet another quality role for DiCaprio.
I think the Sonic franchise as a whole is utterly pathetic now to be honest. I mean, why does anyone even care about Sonic anymore? None of the games have been any good for years, he's the mascot of a failed hardware company, and I doubt any of the guys responsible for making the original decent Sonic games still work on the games.
Just how bad does an IP have to get before people face the fact that it's a nostalgic old memory that'll never be recaptured?
And anyway, there was a 2D Sonic game on the DS.
Man I loved BF2. So want a BF3. ![]()
It seems to be getting extremely good reviews. It's got 88% on Rotten Tomatoes which puts it way up there with a lot of classics, and its IMDB score (8.9/10) is pretty meaty too. Not to mention I know several people who went to see it and thought it was amazing.
Overall gist seems to be that it's one of Tarantino's best. Think I'll have to try and make it to the cinema for this one. ![]()
Depends on the PS3, confusingly enough. Sony basically did a U-turn on its policy, going from literally having the whole of the PS2's hardware and thus perfect backwards compatibility in the original PS3, to having none of it at all and thus no backwards compatibility in later PS3s after the first big price drop.
Removing the hardware is how they managed to drop the price so much, incidentally. I'm guessing this slim version and lower price is just as much a delayed consequence of no longer needing to squeeze a 'PS2' in there as it is the ability to make the hardware fit in a smaller area.
I've heard so much acclaim for this game I don't think I can avoid buying it. Best not disappoint. ![]()
