I can't understand that either. The first thing I do in a lot of games is turn off the voice chat because sometimes it literally ruins the game having a bunch of twats constantly spouting out bullshit — and some people just don't STFU. Even when I've left voice chat enabled in games like Team Fortress 2 I've still had to be constantly muting guys whose voices just generally annoy me.

Rick, why do you feel the need to be as obnoxiously offensive as possible with how you put everything? Honestly man, stop being so god damned abrasive. We're all capable of openly being asses but unlike you we have some degree of self-control so we don't go around fucking off every person we happen to pass like it's some badge of pride.
MapCore might be exceedingly lenient with sharing viewpoints, etc but that doesn't mean you can start being a disrespectful knob. You know full well MapCore houses a large number of Europeans and many of us — myself included — did indeed have great grandfathers rounded up and killed.
The hilarious thing is I actually really think you're a great guy to have around the community, but I can't defend bullshit comments like the above and completely stand by Frie's choice of action.
With that addressed I hope you choose to come back and impose some limits on yourself. But if you can't and choose to leave or be banned permanently should a third strike occur that's something I can live with.

Regardless of any discussion of theme I'm pretty sure I couldn't bear to accept a Max Payne with a camera skewed to the side instead of centered three feet above Max's head, and nobody makes third person shooters with centered cameras anymore, no matter what. It's just what third person shooters are, without question, these days, and that's really very sad. They're all imitating a game that chose that angle specifically to reduce player view radius, to make the game scary...
I'd quite like to literally see Alan Wake's camera in Max Payne 3, actually. While it wasn't as far out as in the older Max Payne games, it was still far out enough to allow for exciting bullet time and it only subtly shifted to each side depending on which way you were looking. It was just generally pulled off really well IMO.
Rockstar has a history of having quite wide cameras with the character centred so it'd actually be unusual for them to not do it in Max Payne 3, but then they might not want yet another game that seems like it's been made to the 'Rockstar mould'.

To be honest the city is largely irrelevant, no definition of noir says it has to feature New York or even night-time. It's all about the atmosphere, and while a snowy New York was absolutely wonderful that doesn't mean somewhere like a dreary Brazil couldn't be a similarly perfect fit as long it's executed right. And there's noone who's more likely to accomplish that except perhaps Remedy themselves.
The trailer doesn't exactly fill me with complete assurance, but it doesn't fill me with dread either. They certainly capture the noir characteristics in quite a bit of the trailer, and while a lot of it shows action it's far from the first trailer to miss the mark by not showing enough of the story.
The most striking thing for me is that the bright, sunny look has been completely toned down and even the brightest of daytime scenes have a cloudy, overcast sky. While I'm sure there'll still be some bright areas to drive home the fact that it's Brazil, I'm guessing a lot of the game will feature an overall look closer to the original games (Max Payne's outdoor areas often weren't actually that dark due to the snow and bright lighting).

I think it's just taste, really. Some of the reworked bits definitely look more aesthetically pleasing, but often at the cost of realism and subtlety. Then I think some bits just look worse period, like in the drop ship.

D3 they don't depict US forces accurately so what hope has Russia got?

Just accept it's an alternate reality — which it is — and don't worry about the finer details so much. Don't forget this is a series where the last PC title looked like this:

You ever even owned a console though?

-
-
Haha. On my phone that did actually look like a Crysis screenshot.

I will quantify my above statement by clarifying that I only played TimeSplitters 2 for like 10 minutes before deciding I couldn't be arsed with it.

-
I didn't like TimeSplitters 2.

Can studios not handle multiple projects any more? What makes you think porting Crysis 1 is going to require the entire (not small) building, or if it does for a length of time that'd result in other projects being permanently backburned?
I'd rather Crytek UK handle it so the central Crytek team can work on, say, Crysis 3.

-
Yeah I don't understand the apparent hostility either. I always wished Crysis 1 had come out on consoles as many people who got it on the PC weren't able to run it decently (not even me with high-end hardware at the time) and so either didn't play it at all or left with the impression that it wasn't very fun cos it ran so crap. Having played it years later with better hardware I realise it's actually superb, but I very nearly didn't bother after so long.
Having a second chance at the market is just what the game deserves IMO and I hope it goes well for Crytek, resulting in more superb games in the future.

In other news I discovered my apartment is literally like 30 seconds away from Crytek UK yesterday. In fact I can see through the windows from my building — hi guys.

Oh come on, images like that are so pathetic.

There's an entire video above which shows that the console version looks more than satisfactory. Nobody's expecting it to match the PC version considering that the PC was technologically ahead of what current-gen consoles could handle even in 2007, but that image makes it look like absolute garbage when actually I was really impressed by how good the console version seems to be. Plus it's a still from a sub-HD video which just adds to the stupidity.
I think it looks really good and it pleases me more people will get to experience an absolute classic that never got as much mainstream recognition as it deserved.
-
Yeah I have to say that for a series first it looks like Battlefield 3 may have truly sublime single-player.
Part of me thinks Bad Company and Bad Company 2 were just ways of keeping the publishers and maybe players sweet while they spent years crafting this beast of a game.

-
This is good news. I know at least a handful of people who intentionally held off on Crysis 2 because they were hoping for a console re-release of the original first. Wonder how much that kind of shit affected sales.

-
I maintain hope, but there's something very special and magical about Remedy games that is going to be hard to replicate.
