Btw, I heard something about Q3 not quite being freeware now, but that it doesn't check for serial keys anymore, is that true?

it is true but if you are looking for conformation about that claim than this post fails because it was me who original said that

UT1 in a browser, or even Unreal 1's multiplayer mode in a browser, would be the most epic thing ever.
This is still nice, though. Signed up for the beta.

I've never liked unreal because the movement has always felt really floaty. Quake based games always feel satisfying and solid to move around in -- I enjoyed Q3 a lot so I will play this
