I don't doubt it I just find it weird so many street dates are being broken or whatever the case is, for the biggest game ever.

A lot of UK preorders were sent out on Thursday.

Where? The worldwide release is meant to be April 29th.

I'm working in the industry where we deal these games around everyday, that's why I got it early.
wtf are you talking about?

One of the places where I ordered it sent it yesterday, so it should be arriving tomorrow. The Special Edition I ordered from Amazon still hasn't been shipped, but it should be arriving on Tuesday~
Anyway, I can wait, my small GTA IV vacation wont start until Wednesday anyway~

I think skdr is talking about the black market.

Or a retail store.

Just got me a 360 Elite. All I need now is GTA4.

-
Yeah, it seems most UK stores got them in last week. I know the Gamestation in Carlisle does because I saw them putting them in the stock room
I'm pretty sure everyone who worked there took a copy home.Plenty of people at Uni who ordered them off various sites online had them shipped on Thursday and depending on the post got them on Friday/Saturday or not at all. Seems to be luck.

I'm pretty sure everyone who worked there took a copy home.i doubt it. the large companies, especially the game stores, sign contracts not to release anything from the store, borrowed or bought, until the release. if somehow the store is linked to a game, they'll have to pay a €500,000 fine. i know this has been especially exaggerated during the gta IV pre release period.
i reckon smaller stores have a bigger role in people getting their hands on gta IV early.

So what's it gonna be, folks. GTA4 on 360 or PS3? Right now I'm thinking 360 because I know a lot more people on live than on PS network, and the prospect of good DLC. PS3 would be an option if it had better framerate or visuals, but nothing has been said yet.
-
I think the chief concern should be whether or not you're planning on playing multiplayer, and if so which console you'll have most friends on. I remain a bit cautious about the DLC as nothing's really been confirmed other than that both the 360 and PS3 will have DLC, and that Microsoft paid a lot of money to keep theirs exclusive. I've heard everything from "the 360 DLC is an entire new city" to "the DLC is just little missions throughout the normal game such as helping wives sort out their cheating husbands".
Everyone's assuming the 360 DLC will be much better than the PS3's because Microsoft paid a lot for it, but it's really just speculation. Indeed, we don't even know whether or not Sony also paid Rockstar for some exclusive DLC. And seeing as we won't see the DLC for quite some time anyway, I'd be more concerned with the immediate advantages (ie: getting the best multiplayer experience by playing with friends).
Incidentally, it would seem that the PS3 version is the technically superior one based on what I've read on various sites. Things I've picked up are that the PS3 has faster load times, less pop-up, and slightly better graphics. I've not read anything about overall framerate on either console, or how much each version slows down during the insane action that always occurs in GTA. I guess this shouldn't be surprising though as the PS3 is an indisputably superior console hardware-wise.

I read a few weeks ago or so that the color was more vibrant on the 360 version?
I pre-ordered a copy for my 360 what a year ago? Before it was pushed back massively and was supposed to come out 2007. I've since bought a PS3 and pre-ordered the special edition for it and so...ya. Double GTA4 fun time extravaganza!
-
I'd wonder more about the percentage of people that even have a choice. I only have a 360 right now.

I think the 360 does some tweaks to every game that make the colors more vibrant.

Yes, I believe that's the case — that it's post-processing. I think you can get a roughly equivalent effect by just fucking with your television's saturation and contrast. It might actually look more realistic without the colour changes though if your television is high-quality and has naturally vibrant colours of its own (cheaper/older HD televisions tend to have washed-out colours and grey-ish blacks).
Gametrailers.com usually does a side-by-side comparison of multi-platform games so it might be worth checking back there soon.
