Looks beautiful, I hope the FPS are high on mid range computers.

It looks good, but I can't quite fathom out what it the setting of the map is. It seems to be a Granary of some sort, but there's a huge Satellite dish on top of a miniature model of planet Earth?

I just think the themes conflict a little.

I think the most important thing is that it kind of goes against the general theme of TF2 maps in general, which is to have a building/area that looks normal from the outside but when you go further in you realise it's actually concealing a secret base (sometimes only the spawns). Valve said something they kept in mind was along the lines of "as if two secret organisations built two bases right opposite each other without even noticing".

So in the cases of Well and 2fort, they actually built/used two whole fake buildings to hide their bases in. In the cases of Gravelpit, Hydro, and Granary, the implication is that they built their bases on both ends of an existing industrial area (hence why computers and base-like stuff isn't found inbetween).

This map does kind of do that, except the big globe and satellite makes it really obvious from the outside it's not what it's meant to be. It'd make the map seem cooler if it was hidden better rather than floating above the whole structure I think.

This is really just something I'm pointing out as a general note to TF2 mappers, though. Good to understand why Valve the designed the maps like they did.

Like I said, still work to do on a little things like this but these are things you don't really keep in mind when playing the map. Like Well's huge chimneys in the background, right?

Well, I can see your reasoning that players won't neccessarily notice it as they play the map more and more, however, I think that the art direction of maps in TF2 plays a much larger role than other games.

The whole idea of TF2's Red/Blu team bases, as Thrik mentioned, is that they were built under the guise of being normal, everyday, industrial buildings (granaries, train depots etc). I think you need to think about that a little more and refine it for this map.

I'm not trying to be an awkward twat; I do genuinely like this map. Keep up the good work and I look forward to more updates

Looks like someone's pretending to be me

edit: PM I got from PalinFreedom, the guy who thought he was talking to me via X-Fire.

Okay, so I scanned my IM logs and buddy lists and I can't find anything from the person I talked to. I don't remember their username, but I know the display name had something about "pirates" in it.Anyhow, when I first tried to contact you, I could find your contact info on your profile and I didn't want to make a CG account on that forum board, but I ended up stumbling across an Xfire address somewhere on that site (or an affiliate... I really wish I could remember. This was over a month ago) that seemed to belong to you.

I sent a message, asking the guy if he was the mapmaker for cp_redstone. He responded "Yeah" and continued to talk with me for about 20 minutes. He was acting a little odd, but I kinda chalked it up to being on the internet, you know? That continued sparsely for about 2 days, but I think now, in retrospect, that I was being pranked.

So yeah... my apologies. I thought I had spoken to you, but I really should have been more thorough. I hope I haven't offended.

I'll keep looking for info on the guy I spoke to, but I really don't have anything from a month ago. :arghh:

But I checked your IP this time and I'm fairly certain you're the real person... so hopefully I can avoid making the same mistake again.

Please contact me whenever if you have any questions. I'm up all the time. Seriously, I'm like an insomniac. It's crazy.

    Heya!

I'd like to introduce myself. I'm the skdr's partner on this project. The one who models and paints and has nothing to do with the actual mapping.

    So....

Here's some digitalpaintings I've painted for the map. Travel ad will be placed on a diner's wall and the cosmonaut piece will be placed somewhere on the red side as a poster.

    Enjoy!

The first and second shot are looking so awesome, I think it equals or even surpasses Valve's levels! Really amazing art direction on it, great style, textures and models!

Although the forth shot makes me remember too much of the official levels, I'd say you try to make it unique, adding that zone a custom and eye appealing prop or something!

Just my 2cent tho, this map is looking gorgeous man, the more I see, the more I'm falling in love with it! Keep it up!

No, duke nukem forever syndrome is that it won't be released. =)

Edit: Just looked more at your updated screens. The planet is a very nice touch but for some things to point out:

    - The planet looks far too close, and part of that may be the lighting.

    - The clouds on the pictures seems to be overlaping the planet, did you make a cloud texture or is a dome cloud model? If animated, it won't look bad, just looks weird in still frame. Maybe I am judging this even more on its lighting. For some reason it looks more like a small planet about to crash into the planet your on...

    - The last screen shot could use with more windows. Currently, it looks very isolated from the beautiful outdoor areas.

    Thanks guys

I'm definitely still toying with the ideas for interior looks so expect those to change to some direction.

I agree with the planet. Right now it looks like a ball with a texture. I'll try some more ideas with it soon so hopefully it'll blend in better

I'm a bit confused about the planet. Is it meant to be out in space but close enough to be clearly visible, or actually in that immediate environment?

It kind of looks like it's floating so I can't really tell.
