Good compact digital camera?

I am currently on the lookout for a compact digital camera with a reasonable price and performance. I am mostly thinking of getting either a Sony Cyber-shot W80 or a Canon Digital Ixus 70. Which one of those would be the best choice? Or are there other cameras in the same pricerange, or cheaper, that offer better image quality?

I'd vote for the Ixus, but mostly because I'm a sucker for Canon and have considered buying that one myself. I don't actually know anything about the Sony one, other than Sony and I have a rather troubled past and I tend to avoid their products at all costs. But I'm not sure that's a valid point for cameras ;D

But the Ixus seems like a really nice compact alternative, I'd say. And from what I've seen (friend of mine has it, or one like it), the quality is astounding for the price and.. compact..ness...something.

They're basically the same camera. Their properties are exactly the same as well as are probably their prices.

If you feel more comfortable with Canon I'd say go for it and vice versa.

i have a canon powershot sd850is and i absolutely love it. the digital elphs/power shots are great cameras and are stupid small. i'll take a pocket sized camera 99% of the time over a giant one.

Ixus 800IS works for me. But I've seen a great compact camera from Sony that is capable of taking excellent shots in dark surrondings without any flash. I need to check the model.

You don't really need the eyesight in compact digital cameras anymore.

If you want to see the image quality of both cameras (or any other camera/lens), you can check the Camera Finder on Flickr which will show photos taken with different cameras (plus useless graphs and charts).
