I'm amazed you have so much time and talent to make such a gorgeous map. My only crit is the church...looks kinda science fiction to me. But....even that is not bad...actually...looks cool as fuck. Just kinda colossal I guess is what I'm trying to say.

how dare you! why criticize the cathedral? that's the best cathedral yet seen in any game! if it looks like science fiction then please never visit the real one!

I guess you gotta see it with your own eyes to get the dimensions - it is frickin' huge!

So if this is being released now did it not get in the next CAMP pack? Or did you not apply/send it in for it?

I arleady downloaded and tested it 10mins ago. Crits coming soon.

    EDIT:

So I think that visually the map is avarage. Lot of things doesnt make sense and even more 1999 i mean stuff like blocky holes in the walls with pipes going in-between bricks

Most of the bombed buildings in my taste would totaly collapse and some more love to the broken elements wouldn't hurt.

Generally the scale is way off, the hallways are too high, windows too big, it's strange for my eyes, it looks like a room is about 5 meters high. The broken railroad is nice idea but how come nothing happened to the carts other than windows being broken?? I expect a bomb to blow the shit out of it as well.

I like some aspects of it like Car/Train models and some other stuff, you can see there is a lot work in it but I don't like the outcome.

Don't get angry with me, it's just my opinion.

I was really expecting something more since you've been acting like you've just created a total masterpiece, all this promo pics and countdowns lol. I think that if you'd consider some of the crits that appeared in this thread the map would've been better (like someone mentioned that it's generally too clean, it would look better if You'de fix it).

I think you still can work on it to make it better. i will try it online with and see if gameplay makes these issues up, I hope it is

i can't agree. the map is very in a whole different messurment than the other maps - that seems to be right but it's just more the difference between the eyehight in different games. due to the architecture as is in cologne and other old german cities the hallways are pretty high as are windows. the gameplay is a bit tricky but i got used to it after some rounds and to the map's defence in that point I've to say I played a lot of TF2 lately and wasn't so much on the DoD-Trip anymore until now.

What buggers me a little is the decal of the Kölsch-Brewery - seems like an "outer glow" layer effect in photoshop to me and - that doesn't look that great - seriously.

On the other hand i liked the cathedral and the rhein the most. the illusion of moving water was done very well.

I downloaded it just to take a look (as I don't play DoD too much), the whole thing is amazing but I agree in the look of the textures doesn't reflect the situation. Most of them are clean, doesn't matter if a bomb exploded just there or not. However I'm not precisely someone who cares too much about that in its map, but the overall quality could be higher if texturing had other art direction (much more time consuming, on the other side).

of course there is a lot of nitpicking right now, but since everybody might expect something different this is ok. i just played it on a server and the people loved it. coming here and reading such comments really turns my happiness down.

regarding the scale: just read the story of dod_kolsch:

    http://www.thomashess.net/index.php?cat=7

so if you think this is a shit level: don't play it.

if you like it: come on one of the servers and have some fun.

i won't make those changes to the map. if there would be a critical server crash or something like that... well then i would fix it. but no more tweaking! would be nicer if you worth ship the hard work warby and i had!

Warbies lightmap hack require to create a special UV map manually. That means rearranging all polygons so that they are compatible with my texture layout and his special lightmap layout. Those of you who are familiar with these specific terms might understand the big problem warby had to challenge here.

What does that mean? What is this lightmap hack of Warby you are talking about? Lightmap generation can perfectly be done almost completely by algorithms, if you pay attention to not overlap faces of single UV shells, can`t it?

Anyways, amazing effort behind that project!

The beautyfull cap compliments your long hair in such an amazing way hessi, but i miss the propeller on top of it

Map looks good, didnt get to play it with more than 2v2 though:

    • [*:lozp533j]Doors seem massive, interior ones feel like their 20ft tall
[*:lozp533j]Bombers flying overhead get very annoying, increase delay on the loop
[*:lozp533j]Interior brightness of windows seems *too* bright compared to outdoors
[*:lozp533j]Kolsch kegs stand out like a sore thumb, red needs toning down
[*:lozp533j]Kolsch sign outer glow looks odd

I personally think that this map's awesome. I had the opportunity to play test it, and it's pretty solid in my opinion. Though some areas could have received a bit more dirt, the map is very nice to look at. Overall a Valve-quality map, if not better
