The podcast does say that he actually did get fired. He didn't resign.

They just stated it was for differnet reasons than the kane and lynch thing, and that the entire thing falling together like that was just a matter of bad timing and coincidences.

Just played it for a bit the other night and yeah... it fucking rocks. All the crap that is going on publicity-wise sucks. I'm gonna need a sequel here.

Props to all you IO boys. Fantastic job.

Yeah I finished it last night, I loved it all the way, the whole theme was great, but when you got into the whole "war" thing, it got a little less fun, the bank map was the best, I loved it.

I'll hope for a sequel (and more maps for FG + more loadouts NOW!!!).

All of this doesn't fill me with hope for Deus Ex 3. IO should really get a better publisher in my opinion. You know, one that doesn't have its head up its arse

Firstly, unless it was Eidos' direct responsibility that IO made a game that scored badly, asking them to get a better publisher won't do anything. Had they released under EA, it would still be reviwed as a moderate game (possibly). Had it been released under Activision, it would still be reviewed as a moderate game, and so on.

And secondly, why do they have their head up their arse if they're trying to save a game developed by IO? Rather than let it flop and, subsequently, leave a moderately reviewed and potentially a financial cock up on IO's record? And until there's any confirmation that the guy was fired due to this, jumping to that conclusion based on a single person saying "Yeah, it was totally to do with that!" is rather unfounded.

Trying to save the game by publishing false acclaim on the website? yeah, way to go. Who's to say that if it had been a different publisher any of this would have happened.

i believe that there were issues with deadlines and such on behalf of the publisher wanting the game out in time for the holidays.

That came close to Kamikaze to release it unpolished with all these other shooters.

Aah right, so it'd be better for IO to go to a publisher that instead lets their game damage their reputation. And under a different publisher, why would it be any different? The game would still get the same reviews.

It would be better to have a publisher that doesn't have to fork out bullshit. I realize the irony in that comment but there are others who would have handled it better I think.

You seem to be blaming Eidos for the game's reviews. Saying IO should find a better publisher when it's the other way around. Eidos didn't cause the bad reviews, but they did try to save themselves to avoid the game selling worse than they think it should.

I'd be interested in what publisher you think would want to advertise their game on a site which criticised it, though.

I don't quite understand where this is going, but to get on the bandwagon ahead of time: Are we for or against threats and deceit?

Note that there is no proof or confirmation about threats, just one anonymous person claiming that it was.

Well, I think some people commenting here are wrong - the review scores may definitely vary depending on the publisher.

As the makers of the games, we like to think that they are merely rated on their quality, but there is also the business side of things to consider. A publisher spending big advertising money on a site is certainly more likely to receive favourable reviews for their games on that site.

played the demo too. was quite buggy for me, all shadows were rendered on top of the geometry. and i thought the demo was a bit too short. but still it looked promising. and you just gotta love the slightly blurry cityscape when on top of the building.

now please announce the next hitman title soon!

I think the concept and marketing alone could probably get the game its sales. Even after knowing the gameplay was meant to be a bit mediocre, I saw huge magazine spreads for it and it just made me want to play it regardless. The characters (both how they look and their backstory) and plot is really compelling.
