Good places in London

    I'll be staying in London for about a week, starting next Tuesday, to visit a friend who's trying to settle there. Since he hasn't been in London for long yet, I don't think he'll be able to play the guide part, and a week can be pretty long if you don't have stuff to do on daytime but sit on your ass at the local pub.

    I already went there, but I was like 12 so I don't remember much, if anything at all. So I thought I'd just ask here, as there seems to be many europeans browsing these boards, hoping someone who lives in London or has ever been there can advice me some cool stuff to do, visit, whatever.

    Oxford street has a huge fuck off HMV on it, and a really neat metal shop tucked away on the main street. You definitely have to go into the London Dungeon it was fucking awesome when I went there. Love to go again.

    Thanks guys, I note these ones down. I briefly searched some info on the London Dungeon and it definitely sounds interesting. (Though, if I look for a place to give me the creeps, I might as well visit that metal shop )

    BTW, if you know about a good young hostel (cheap) somewhere, please share!

    Shad Wharf/Shad Thames (South side of Tower Bridge) or Saint Catherines Dock (North side of Tower Bridge) for just chilling out a bit.

    camden town is excellent, you should definitely go (huge punk/goth scene). you can also pack a lunch and go up primrose hill; the view is much better than london eye as well as cheaper... it might be a bit cold there now though.

    covent gardens has this cheap restaurant called bistro 1 or bistro 2 (i cant remember) behind the arcade shops (from the station); this is easily one of the best restaurants in london and the food is cheap.

    I work in central London and its a pretty damn cool (though expensive) place.

    Def check out the Science Museum, also you could take a look at the London Eye, a massive ferris wheel type thing, the Planetarium, Natural History Museum (also huuuuge), The Tower of London (take a camera, loads of awesome photo ref.

    For shopping try Covent Garden, Soho, and the Camden and Borough markets. Borough market in particular is a really great place to just wander about checking out all the funky food and wine/beer stalls. Also close by is the Tate Modern Gallery. If you've never been there I throughly recommend it (its free). It was an old turbine power station and is a wicked building to explore. Its also right next to the Thames which is well worth a wander along the bank of.

    There's a wagamama in Covent Garden as well. Delicious!

    That, the museums, Southbank and various train stations is about the extent of my knowledge of London. Imperial War Museum is pretty good as well and the HMS Belfast is pretty interesting.

    seriously tho, camden is def worth a visit. i liked the hawley arms pub and at proud. theres lots of cool places in soho too.

    Thanks for the list of locations guys, I didn't have time to visit everything but that's not a problem, since I loved that city so much I'm relocating there for 6 months or more. My friend and I took a day to look for a twin room and found the perfect house-share in Shepherd's Bush. I'm moving back there around this weekend.
