Technologically this game is amazing, and I also love the gameplay, but there's no way I'd say it tops Half-Life 2. I can't let my excitement go that far.

I think it's more a case of you underrating it than the game being overrated, D3.

A friend send me that link today: (german)

It's not a review but I was quite suprised about the positive things they say about Crysis and the "killer games debate". Usually ZDF are the first to say games are bad.

It's good to know that some of the news are getting more objective slowly.

From what I hear the experience of Crysis is so magical and amazing it’s comparable to a unicorn pissing a rainbow into a pot of gold. However, until I upgrade my computer I’m trying my hardest to avoid it because one game isn’t worth that kind of money.

And I’m not going to appreciate any kind of irony when I now tell D3adlode to stop convincing himself Half-Life 2 is rubbish, and just upgrade to play it properly.

Though to be honest, I don’t like the way the FPS genre is going. The parts of an FPS I like are the ones that make up the acronym. Less emphasis on vehicles, plots, squads, physics and your open, believable, living-breathing worlds – and more emphasis on me running around in the open, circle strafing monsters and blowing their faces off with a shotgun.

10/10 in the swedish magasine GameReactor.. How this be possible? =)

Well, Halo 3 had fourteen 100% reviews last I checked.

    I don't think HL2 is rubbish, just overrated.. there's a difference.

then why is it overrated? i wouldnt say that crysis tops half life 2 either honestly, because half life 2 is made by arguably the best designers in the industry; without going into details, it is pretty much awesome in its immersion. put it differently, there's a reason why half life 2 got 96 metascore whereas crysis only got 93.

still, i'd go so far as to say that crysis is the second best choice after half life 2

It's not overrated. It deserves all the praise it gets.

Did you actually play HL2 D3?

Yay, the release party was great! Crytek rented Sven Väth's Cocoon Club, the venue and Crysis decoration was amazing and drinks/food were free of course. So basically everybody got really trashed and we had a good time

All guests got the game as a take-away present which was very cool as well, so the trip already paid off for Mr Hessi

Hessi, freakadelle, Hanno (who made most of the characters in Crysis) and me (from left to right).

As you can see we are keepin' it real MapCore style.

Bonus picture from my framed copy:

I might post a few more pictures of the club and guests the next days.

BTW, trivia question for the people who own the game:

What is the level inside the Alien ship called?

    SPOILERS

    SPOILERS

    SPOILERS

    SPOILERS

    SPOILERS

    SPOILERS

Ok my opinions so far after a good 5 hours solid play :

    The bad :

Some of the designers need to be shot. Particular sections of the game are just infuriating. Notable moments being the tank section and the end of the Alien Cave section. With the cave, I just found myself aimlessly wondering (floating) around for 10 minutes before I accidentally stumbled over the trigger to end the section of the map. Ugh.

First person weapons are shaky and jitter about slightly and ruin the otherwise perfectness of the graphics and animation.

The way Prophet gets taken out just sucked. Sucked I tell you (whether or not he makes the famous hero comeback later on in the game I don't know) But how he was just snatched away so ungracefully after all that had happened up until that point just felt like a hell of an anti climax.

The physics. Man, they are pretty poor to be honest in Crysis. The amount of Koreans I've seen stuck in bits of corrugated metal doing the electric dance was hilariously bad. Coupled with the burned out husks of attack helicopters I blew out of the air just continuously vibrating like crazy as soon as they hit the ground was a real atmosphere breaker.

    The good :

Wow. The graphics are phenomenal. Especially the winter section with the blowing snow. Fantastic.

The voice acting, top notch actors. I like it when actors are cast who actually put effort into their lines it brings so much more to the game. Especially Prophet I thought the actor did a fantastic job.

The cut scene animations between your squad are great. Even though it's still not 100% like human motion and looked a little poor in places and let the graphics and voice acting down it was still great to watch.

The music. What can I say, great stuff to listen to. Set the mood nicely. Kudos to the music guys.

The weapons. They're fun to shoot. Rather important factor considering it's an fps and all.

Destructible foliage and buildings are so much fun and really adds to the fire fights.

That's it for now. I'll come back with some more when I've played further.

Just finished it. Good game with some nice ideas but extremely frustrating and an absolute system hog.

Oh, so that's the level you worked on? Can't wait to play it...

I'm at the harbour btw, I dunno why but this level is fucking "heavy" on my system, I played with the settings at very high all the game, but I saw myself forced to decrease it a bit in this mission, because I was experiencing 5/10 fps!

subtle reference by our dear friechamp?

i completed it in about 6 hours total (delta), pretty short but very stunning visually, great gameplay but also extremely frustrating in various places. i am used to having autosaves do the saving for me and i would time after time redo the same spots because i forgot to save. also there seemed to be some bugs after loading saves, like for instance that ai would keep their state of alertness they had prior to the save, among others.

still, it's a solid release; even the story seems compelling and at no point i felt bored or like i wasnt sure what was going on.
