I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet (or at least I haven't seen it mentioned).

ModDB just launched the new version of their site. Check it out.

That's pretty impressive. I mean, Version 3 was quiet an eye-sore but they've really outdone themselves this time in making me never want to visit their site ever again.

I have to agree with Supernorn. The website isn't exactly easy on the eyes and the design looks outdated tbh. The pixel look was cool in 2001/2002.

It appears to be a lot tidier than the previous one in my opinion, I kind of like it. But it's going to take quite a while to get used to it.

    The first one was best.

Yeah, i don't like this layout compared to the last. For one the news is Displayed in such a useless way, no mod name, no game name, and no easy to see pics. You ahve to click to get to a position to see if it's even worth reading.

Way to fuckup the site, comments for mods have vanished and everything looks horrible...

I would just like to make a point.. as I am staff at ModDB.

v4 was built completely from the ground up, and in order to get most of the community helping fill up our new approach with content we launched it.

There is still a lot of features to come, and a lot of features to be implemented into v4.

Comments on profiles, mods etc are back in as of last night. And things are moving very quickly.

And guys constructive criticism would be nice as opposed to general bashing. If you have an idea - suggest it.

I didn't know how to do it yet, so i tried it.

    Went to games

    Selected the game I wanted

    And hit the mods tab.

Admittedly that is something that could be streamlined a bit better - but it wasn't that hard.

Think what rick means is you can't filter out the game you are searching for that the mod is on. What you used to do instead of going to games was just go Mods > Select the game from drop down list > select whatever and bam you're done. this one is just messy.

You need better designers... the site looks really ugly now comparing to the later version.

yeah, i would rather search via game than theme, for instance.

    also i tried your suggestion:

went to games, clicked on doom3 as a test, took me to the doom3 page - then i clicked the mods tab at the top (as i couldn't see any others) and it just took me to 'all mods'

    very hard to navigate.

The links at the top are global links. If you look under the title Doom III, you'll see another set of nav links that are context sensitive. If you click 'mods' there, it will take you to Doom 3 only mods.

I don't get why it has to be re designed all the time. Lick of paint is fine but changing all the navigation is annoying D:

Well to be fair, four times in five years isn't that often.

I do agree though. Visually, this new version seems a little outdated. The main content areas with the nice, clean white isn't so bad, but the general style seems more like a GameSpy site from 2003 and stands out a bit in this modern web 2.0 world.

It also reminds me a lot of Destructoid.

I mean no serious criticism towards the designer as for what it is it's a good design, but just like an awesome 80s hairstyle looks like shit now, this doesn't fit into the current web too well.

Of course I could say the same about sites like GameSpot so it's not that bad.

holy shit that's almost a destructoid clone!
