small symetrical map that grew a little out of proportions (in detail speaking)

    the idea behind this map:

its a secret underground military rocketbase positioned in some jungle somewhere in the future (jungle part not made yet) but it has been abandoned and the jungle top part is one big ruin. the underground part is still in a relative good condition but has been a place for graffiti artists and drug (ab)users.

just a thing about the texturing for this level me and bluepunk are working on them right now and its going to be concrete/metal and a lot of high tech stuff and some jungle thingies for the top part

when we finish some textures we will post them here for your comments so we can make this the best we can

    history:

bluepunk once made a single floor quake1 map in wich i saw a lot of things i asked him if i could alter it and i dont need to say more i believe.

Very nice. Some good texturing and lighting will make it a very attractive map indeed.

    yes, more textures!

these would do nicely if you want to keep the minimal texturing

Reminds me a lot of the Q3 geocomp maps. Which is a very good thing. Might want to consider using plain textures to emphasize the brushwork. Really want to see how it compiles, though.

yes running this bitch will be a pain in the ass but its getting better everyday think im gonna make free some more time for this map so i can finish it. for the texturing part i was thinking of some sort of evil lab style but im still experimenting with that

I like it, although it would look superneato on the q3 engine.

I'd be biting my arm off after all that vertex manipulation.

Maybe it wont maybe it will. I dont really care if it runs in hl. if it wont ill compile it for some other game I am only a 17 year old kid and i still have to learn a lot of things. but when this is finished i can assure you it will look stunning

quake 3 for example with proper techniques used this would be running just fine im already making models of the more complex things and im still spicing up the details and if q3 wont be good enough then maybe hl2 will suffice

    umm.. that's me

i went to your site and looked at the other pics. actually, i really DO love this geo. Look at all the rounded goodness! i love rounded stuff.. it's so awesome, though HL usually tends to dissagree with me. But i guess that's why Q3 and patch meshes were invented. Those rule. if you do end up using Q3 for the engine, which i think is highly possible based on HL's lack of interest in high wpoly scenes, you should switch over to Gtk-Radiant 1.4.0 and use patch meshes. you can import the geometry first of course, but as far as i know Radiant is the only editor with mesh support, not to mention Gtk is just awesome as it is. And the meshes will look 10x better than using brushes. You can't go wrong with using meshes... i'll stop now.

in the state it is right now your right but like i said i still have to change a lot of things and am making models of the more complex things so i believe it will run.

in reply to belgarion "patch meshes" means working with individual faces right? ive been dreaming about that for ages now tnx for the info
