I designed a TF2 map on paper, but I have never used Hammer, only Ue2 & Ue3, so trying to decide if its a good deal or not for a non-hammer user.

Well, i never watched that but hammer is really easy to learn
no better way than to learn from the people who use it 24/7
I would recommend it as it'll save you lots of back-and-forth between tutorial sites written by people who don't have a full grasp of the tools
I second Rick

Not made by Valve. Also part of a series with "MOD" in the title instead of Mod. Boo!
I personally wouldn't bother unless there's some positive reviews of that DVD. Hammer is fairly easy to learn.
how many lecture hours btw?
yeah i had a look at it as well, and i pass the same judgment as KFS - not made by valve; i wouldnt bother.
If you do think video tutorials are the way to go, I'd snag the 3DBuzz selection on HL2. I can speak fairly highly for what I've seen of their productions in the past and their HL2 content is completely free. You'll need to register for the site, but that's another game you can buy this holiday season. ![]()
Speaking of books made by Valve, I just ordered Phil Co's book on level design, which contains UnreadEd and not Hammer, but principles and lessons are what I'm after.
Same, link us please.
Anyone here able to use Google?
I ordered it off Amazon.com:
http://www.amazon.com/Level-Design-Game ... 05&sr=8-15
EDIT: WTF, I ordered it from the US amazon, as I wasn't able to find it on the French site, and now I can....oh well...
Thanks Furyo.
I'm gonna order it from Amazon.co.uk, along with this one:
Mastering Unreal Technology: The Art of Level Design

Ugh, why would you want that?
You can download _a lot_ of VTMs at http://3dbuzz.com (free registration required). Just fyi, 3dbuzz=Mastering Unreal.
HP, a new book will be released next month or something similar, from the same authors, concentrating on UE3 rather than this one on UE2. Might be worth the wait as UE2 gets really old by now.
Ah, nice, I think I'll wait then, thanks for the tip! ![]()
