First I can't believe more than one of you didn't get what I meant.
Anways simply put, why would you want a pentagram in it? Was it to try and make it seem hectic ? Or Hardcore <-- there's that word again. I know it's meant to be like hell, but I doubt hell would have stupid symbols in it. It's a lake of sulphur where people experience horrible deaths and torture.
Most games and people usually can't come up with more imaginative ways to make something seem evil, so they settle with adding something called contraversy to their work. In order to give it that edge. Player sees pentagrams, player thinks oooo, this must really be an evil place. Whereas other games like Silent Hill rely on pure genious to push that accross (Not saying a cs map is similar to a 3rd person puzzle survival horror). I'm simply talking from a design perspective.

I dunno, personally I don't see anything controversial about pentagrams at all; I think that all the old FPS games broke that ground by having the dotted all over the place. I think it's just a thing most people associate with hell these days and implement purely out of instinct. It's like putting cars in a city map; you don't think anything of adding them.
That's just my perspective though. If the pentagram really was added to just look all bad-boy and such then that is pretty sad. Nice work though, I find the concept pretty interesting.

You’re making way too much of a deal out of this, it’s a pentagram, Doom 1 had loads of the buggers, it’s a symbol associated with Hell because people used runes and symbols to worship and bring demons into the world, typically unsuccessfully. It’s hardly a serious map and it’s far too fast paced for atmosphere. What do you suggest? Player spawns and falls into a big lake of sulphur and dies? Fan-fucking-tastic.
It’s quite clear the setting is a section of a town that’s been ripped out and flung into hell, the pentagram at the center does feel fitting. A stereotypical Hell maybe, but who cares? I would say "You don't know what Hell looks like anyway" but I'm worried we're going to throw this into a religious thread, which is never, ever good.
And Heather aborting the unborn foetus of God, throwing it up no the floor and Claudia eating it is a little bit more controversial than a fucking star.

Man, Silent Hill is awesome simply because of moments like that.

I'm not following Ewok and his "wannabe hardcore" thing, so there's a pentagram in the map so what? I can't see how that makes the map a wannabe bad boy one, it fits the theme "Hell" wery well.
