QuoteDisplay More- Current release date is Winter 2005- According to Todd Howard they are trying to make the game as appealing to mainstream gamers as possible
without alienating the hardcore players that prefer more complex RPG's (maybe good or bad)
- They say the game is very very large, but (sadly) it will be smaller than Morrowind for two reasons (Stated by Todd Howard):
- (A) "Budgets and schedules for games will not change much while the enhanced graphics will require more development time,
- (B) "It’s a fact that, statistically, gamers prefer shorter games, and often do not finish more involved titles"
- Will be unlike the conventional RPG in which the combat outcome does not depend on the luck of “dice rolls”
- The damage that you dole out will be determined by your strength, your opponent’s armor, and the attack you unleash
- Your opponents will block and dodge, so taking down an enemy is entirely on the player’s shoulders
- To make this more mainstream appealing(?) they have made most of the tedious aspects of Morrowind fun
(Lock picking, mixing potions, and forging armor for example are going to be done through a mini game of sorts)
- Still made for the 1st person player there are options for both 3rd person and 1st person (like Morrowind),
while also saying that the "combat is visceral and bloody”, and that it is designed to recall intense swordplay seen
in movies like LoTR and Brave heart. Not to mention the fact that they said, “The combat will be every bit exiting as a FPS"
- There are expansive forest regions that are the most breath taking of them all, if only you could see the screen,
but they are packed with almost photorealistic trees and at least a thousand slivers of grass
- All NPC's have a basic day to day schedule so they go to sleep, shop, and even if a poor guy that can’t afford food wants
food enough, he will steal from some one, maybe even you
- Here’s another quote "The Elder Scrolls games are about freedom, and Oblivion takes that freedom to a whole new level ~
The combat is a much bigger focus than in the earlier games"
smaller than morrowind...what the hell
i dont want short games. the last almost long game ive played was doom 3. i want this game to last 60 hours like ff7 :x
Have you played Morrowind? Theres far more than 60+ hours of gameplay.
Not to mention the expansions.
True Algor.
And it only says that its smaller in size (land) and not gameplay wise. We have to wait and see tho.
But the most awesome thing about the preview is the release date. WINTER 2005!!
I must say I dislike the xbux and what ever silly game that is.
But that screenshot is nice!
Holy crap on first sight I thought that was a photo! ![]()
Might as well add they have Havok physics... naturally
All I've wanted recently in Morrowind is physics and decolayers... and Oblivion has that with a crapload of others features.
I really dislike Morrowind. It was such an incomplete and buggy game. It was soon uninstalled.

I completed Morrowind and I have to say it is one of the most unsatisfying and dissapointing games I have ever played.
It seems the developers spent all their time making a huge and often very beautiful world. Then they forget to add things like detail , common sense and any sort of dynamic gameplay. A few things that really stuck out for me were, the complete lack of children in the game(there were old people so where are the kids?), the static state of the world (after beating the final boss and saving the world I was still greeted as "outlander", "stranger" and "n'wah" by the same people who sent my on the quest to begin with). There are many more things that were lacking but that would take up too much space so I will just say that Bethesda has to do more than pretty graphics to make a good game. I know they can do it, Daggerfall was very good.
As far as the best rpg of all time is concerned I think your time would be better spent with the Final Fantasy series or Baldurs Gate 1&2.
I am however not a gaming bigot, if elder scrolls 4 is good I will play it and from what I have seen and heard it should be brilliant. These days though I have grown used to being dissapointed.
respect the Final Fantasy and Baldurs Gate.~ ![]()
You often don't find children in games, esp a game where you can kill everyone.
That's the way it is, and should be.
Same if they would add families with 4 year old children wandering around the streets in GTA, getting shot down and kicked on while being dead...not my type of game.
Yeah i totaly agree with Evert. If you want children in Morrowind just DL the mod Children in Morrowind.
I think the story and plot in Morrowind was the best iv ever known in a game.
HOLY COW!
This must be the best gfx i'v ever seen in any game. Doom3 is now officaly pwned!
BUMP
