I got a pair of Sennheiser HD 201 at work and the sound is really fantastic. They don't look superexpensive though and I don't think they are either, so if you want great sound for a fair price, then I think they are an obvious choice.

I've got a Sennheiser HD 515, love it to death.

A bit pricey, but affordable and personally I think it has amazing audio quality.

If you want a nice cheap pair for gaming with good quality for the money and a nice mic, I'd recommend the Sennheiser PC150s (or similar). Should be able to find them for £35-45 these days. For that kind of dosh, you won't do much better.

The Sennheiser HD 650 is pretty happening it appears.. the thing with the higher end headphones is you really need a pre-amp to get the best ouf of the headphones and thats another 100$ or so? I'd quite like the Audio Technica ATH-A900 ~170$ I think These aren't meant for gaming

I think the HD 650 is probably beyond the scope of the author as they are pretty much the most expensive headphones Sennheiser do. Pretty much any pair in the Sennheiser HD line is going to be excellent though, and even the HD 212 pair I had a few years ago absolutely pissed all over any in the same price range.

Although there is a pattern emerging in this thread with the recommendation of Sennheiser (HD) headphones, I think it's probably worth reiterating: they are very good headphones! And since they have a huge range of price levels that all deliver increasingly good quality, starting low will still provide excellent sound.

The Sennheiser brand itself is very well respected, and considered one of the main audiophile brands. As I said above, the higher up the HD range you go, the more incredible detail you can hear (the breath between singers' lyrics example is not an exaggeration).

I agree with Thrik, I got Sennheiser PC161's for my PC and some HD25's for listening to music on. Both have excellent sound quality.

I think you need to buy a set with a modular wire thingy that will disconnect, then. I've had my PC150s for two years and suffered no mishaps.
