Unfortunately they didn't released MGS3 for PC, so I didn't played it, yet.

And prolly, they wont release MGS4 for PC neither, so I'll prolly buy a PS3

seriously though - this game is looking more and more shit by the second. I can't believe they think this stuff is cool, what the hell, it's gay. And that makes all japanese people gay.

I know this generally goes without saying Rick, but I feel it's worth pointing out anyway: not everyone agrees with you!

I do find those comments somewhat humorous though as the series makes things involving Raiden, the blonde guy, a bit gay-ish on purpose. His grandfather (who looked the same) was depicted as the gay lover of the main villain in MGS3.

And of course, the last part of the MGS4 trailer was intentionally designed to look quite like an anal sex scene.

Kojima always injects some humour into the trailers that doesn't appear in the final game (like the "Grand Theft Auto" part of the old MGS3 trailer), although it goes over the heads of a lot of people.

I've seen lots of people playing and ranting/raving on about MGS but never played any of them.

I don't know why but something never clicked, possibly not wanting to be associated with weird sweaty PS fanboys nerdgasming over it in dark rooms.

the MGS on the PS1 was _amazing_ - literally made me buy a PS1 because of it, with no other games. One of the most fantastic games I have ever played, ever. In the history of everything.

When MGS2 was announced I was psyched; overall the game was utter shit though. Gay characters and bad guys, "Vamp" for example, and the fat bomb guy. Ugh it was all shit except for the boat scene and Snake calling himself Snake Pliskin (if you don't know what that's from I suggest taking a hot bath and cutting your wrists).

MGS3 was.. well it was interesting but you could tell they still hadn't learnt any lessons from MGS2 except that nobody wanted to play as raiden except the people who liked penis in bum.

Some of the MGS4 stuff looks great, but it's drowning in a river of faggy shit, the floor humping, the barrel (wtf.. honestly, rolling, and then throwing up and .. omg I don't even want to think about it), the gay little metal gear robot, the girlie mags (we have the internet, we don't need to buy a game to look at women whoring themselves) - the ball grabbing (you know I never thought to myself whilst playing MGS "hey you know I really need to grab this guys balls").

And setting it in "the middle east" - god that's so fucking uninspired.

    tl;dr

    SUMMARY-

    MGS4 looks shit and gay.

You're totally entitled to your opinion. I just disagree with the majority of it and think that MGS2 was a pretty great game (largely with regards to gameplay), and MGS3 was even better than both predecessors combined.

I have to wonder if you're just trolling or not, because your criticisms in that post about MGS4 are seriously ridiculous. The "floor humping" is slow proned movement, the "gay little metal gear robot" is a reconnaissance device, the girlie magazines were in the past MGS games and are used as an enemy diversion, and the ball grabbing... okay, the ball grabbing was a bit weird. But the rest of the stuff is excellent from a gameplay perspective.

And it's not just set in the Middle East. It's set across the world, and will take part in Europe and America. Just like with the past games, only a very small part of it is shown in the pre-release media but you're led to believe you're seeing a lot more than you are (although with MGS2 this kind of backfired, making most people think it was Snake all the way through).

If you think it looks faggy, okay. Those of us who loved all of the past games will play it and love it regardless of whether or not you do.

Rick: Are you trying to set a new world record in obscenity?

Foul language doesn't make your arguments any stronger, in fact it does exactly the opposite...

i'm not trolling - and i honestly think all these little 'gameplay' features make the game lame.

i fucking loved MGS1, as I already said, it was fantastic, but with each version they seem to be going more and more nuts. The camoflague shit I barely used in MGS3, the gameplay in MGS2 was ok but the characters and story were fucking awful.

In the trailer hijokijsiuahaha says it's set in the middle east, if they go all over the world then great, but god why not show some of that instead of all this crap. I was loving the trailer to begin with but it got worse and worse as it went on.

I am not speaking as a troll or as someone who dislikes MG - I love the character of snake and the intertwining anime style storylines of the early games but personally I don't like where it's going, it may be interesting new gameplay but it is still gay and doesn't feel as cool as Snake should do. He's a bad ass mother fucker and I don't need to see up his ass-crack to know that.

what is it with people here thinking if you go against the flow you're automatically a troll? people have different opinions for gods sake, leave them be. just because they dont like it doesnt mean they troll. go look up wiki for internet trolling. i think that rick explained his point perfectly about why he didnt like it, why should that be considered trolling, just because you dont agree with him.

get real people, you can have an online community with a few disagreements here and there without htem being trolling

I was referring specifically to the several daft criticisms he gave (like the slow prone movement because it looks like "floor humping"), which seemed very much like someone intentionally just saying things to be a dick.

In fact, pretty much every post of Rick's has referred to the game being gay or faggy.

I think the real problem is that Rick is putting across his opinion in a slightly immature fashion, and it pisses me off dealing with people like that (especially when I know they're actually far more intelligent). Comments like "that makes all japanese people gay" are just ridiculous, and scream of somebody going out of their way to be an ass.

For a basic idea of what I mean, notice how most people don't absolutely saturate their posts with swearing and comparisons to gays when they're criticising something. It just makes it tedious for those trying to have a serious discussion.

it wasnt really my intention to use rick's post as an example, but i just got infuriated by frie's post and thinking back to the sc2 thread, i saw sort of the same thing happening, so i went to try and avoid that.

i also agree with you thrik, you shouldnt post comments like that, but you know there's a fine line between being a critic and a troll. i never mind if people use terms like 'faggy, stupid, lame' etc if they state arguments why they think so; i think of them as 'reverse' euphemisms because at the time they might have a lack of better wording.

That's a nice way to describe the usage of obscene words and I don't even mind if people curse, but the problem is: this was just an extreme case out of many and that's why I pointed it out. I don't even mean to pick out Rick or attack him, it is just something that increased heavily lately and people like Thrik and me - who are interested in more civilized discussions don't approve this, at least when it goes overboard.

    And it does recently.

"This is ass", "This sucks", "This is totally gay lolz" - everybody is entitled to his opinion and should be allowed to express it in public, but please guys, be mature and reasonable about it. Also in respect to other forum members, especially when you criticize their work.

I have no interest in posting on a board (or even moderating it) where the acceptance of such simple rules is frowned upon and each time me, or others, ask posters to watch their language a little better, we are "the evil moderators" that want to suppress peoples opinions.

And then it turns into a fundamental discussion like this one. I honestly feel kind of dumb to fall for it again, but I just wanted to be clear about how I see it.

If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to raise them, we are all friends here

i dont think there's anything wrong with a discussion like this one, we aren't flaming each other or anything, we're merely looking at what has happened.

i actually have a question here:

do you consider cussing/swear words to be inappropiate for any of these forums? and if so, why isn't there a sticky post regarding this matter?

ok I am sorry for my cursing; it is kind of natural for me to be really foul mouth in a casual discussion - it's not pretty and it isn't nice and I can understand how those words can leap out at you and sort of direct away from any valid arguements or opinions I may have had.

I was being very tongue in cheek calling all japanese people gay, but I was hoping people knew me well enough to understand I wasn't being serious or trying to piss anyone off. It would have been easier to have no typed anything though, so meh, my bad.

I still think MGS4 looks totally weak though ;(

Lots of people have disliked the trailer from the very offset, and have managed it without creating a ruckus. Insulting something when you disagree just provokes people who like it, and is trolling. Though it was hardly off the chart, you’d expect people to be a bit more thick-skinned. I personally love a well placed swear word.

However, the fagging up of the SC2 thread was people disagreeing? That was a complete train wreck from page 9 starting with the amazing ‘disagreement’ by Leileilol that everyone who likes the look of SC2 is a blind consumer whore and is running the games industry into the ground. I could see how someone could be rubbed up the wrong way by that.
