    Read the story here!

Basically SK sure Epic Games because they say that the working engine code wasn't given to licensees on time and that forced SK to start modifying (personal conclusion) and eventually develop their own engine.

Wow! Somehow I understand SK's anger but this is just way over the top to obtain more or less the right for the engine... wtf!

    EDIT: Thanks to Beyondunreal

Regardless of the exact facts of the case which we can't know I think its a PR nightmare for both involved, more so for SK because Epic is currently riding the wave of good will from Gears of War. It certainly doesn't help Epic's liscensing however that this lawsuit has come about.

I hope it doesn't slow down Epic's game developement, personally, I couldn't give a shit about Too Human and I haven't talked to anyone who does. Considering its been in dev all the way back the PS1, I don't think Epic is the one responsible for SK not getting it out the door.

Well, the acusation is that Epic didn't provided the engine code as appointed (according to SK) and eventually the changes SK has made were not helped to convert to the Xbox360 engine code with the reason that these are not engine specific modifications but game specific (if i got that right).

Still, I hope this shit doesn't become popular... otherwise we can expect game and middleware companies to have more lawyers than developers.

it seems SK have some valid arguements, if you actually read what they are alleging - I wonder if Epic will bother to make a statement or if they will just hide behind lawyers at court? D:

Epic Games' Vice President Mark Rein sent out a press release this afternoon notifying some gaming press of the suit: "This morning we were served with a lawsuit by Silicon Knights. We believe the claims against us are unfounded and without merit and we intend to fully defend against them," said Rein.

"We'd love to tell you more about it but unfortunately our lawyers want us to save our comments for the courthouse so we're going to do our best to comply with their wishes. In that vein we'd appreciate if our friends in the industry and media would refrain from asking us about the suit because we're only going to say 'no comment.' We just wanted to share the news directly before the rumor mill starts churning."

. Doesn't say much for their original IP skills, but they sure know how to remaster a game.

And Eternal Darkness, also for the Gamecube! I watched my flatmate play it and he loved it, and I've also got myself a copy but, well, the Gamecube hasn't been used for a while... I'm sure I'll give it a whirl one of these days, as it did look cool

Sk's case actually looks pretty solid.

The suit initially alleges that: "Rather than provide support to Silicon Knights and Epic’s other many licensees of the Engine, Epic intentionally and wrongfully has used the fees from those licenses to launch its own game to widespread commercial success while simultaneously sabotaging efforts by Silicon Knights and others to develop their own video games."

Should be interesting to see how it turns out.

The thing that struck me was how specific the document was with its allegations. I was expecting something a lot more vague, laced with legal babble.

Than again, I'm not all that well versed in this sort of thing.

If you file a lawsuit it has to be boistrous and over the top in order to clearly allege that there was actually a breach of contract that took place.

You can't say "Epic was not sufficiently timely in their delivery" you have to really paint them as being defficient

I liked silicon knights when they made DOS games before selling out to console kids

Note that Valve also similarily gave Troika an early junky incomplte Source engine for Vampire but no one cares about that because Valve is god lololol
