So it hasn't been cut all along...

    From: http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/48030

    Quote

Following FarCry developer Crytek's 2004 deal with EA to create a new game--which eventually would become the much-anticipated shooter Crysis--Ubisoft was left alone with the rights to the FarCry franchise. News of their planned sequel broke after images were accidentally included in an Ubisoft press kit. (...)FarCry 2 is under development by Ubisoft Montreal. No further details were released at this time.

For those who want to see the leaked concept art again:

Looking forward to see first ingame screens, because I'm curious what Ubi Soft can tickle out of Cry Engine 1 still today. The concept art sure does look promising, love Africa as a setting!

Excuse me for my lack of knowledge but Is this a "non-involvement-with-crytec-whatsoever" game? And is it using the same engine as FarCry? Suddenly my interest became alittle less, but the engine is still solid so I will wait before i judge

Maybe they'll release it around the movie's release, double the marketing potential!

Seriously though, wtf. I really liked the original FarCry, it did have some pretty annoying bits but overall its still a solid title. But Ubisoft have managed to totally clusterfuck whatever the FarCry franchise had going for it with an absolute shit storm of awful sequels. Does anyone really hold any value to the Far Cry name anymore?

Could probably be considered a spiritual sequel to an extent, but no, it isn't.

Been playing farcry1 this weekend. Really impressive game, nice engine too - the level designers should have been shot for some of their retardedness though S:

FrieChamp works for Crytek and I assume he'd be aware of who the engine's licensed to.

Well Ubi Soft already released a selection of FarCry games (Instincs, Predator ...) using CE1, so they definitely have a license and I know that they have been modifying it as well. The question is how far they can take it - the blurry scans are really hard to judge, so although there is definitely the possibility that this is a modified CE1 engine, I don't want to exclude that it is running on something completely else. Too early for that.

Maybe someone working at Ubisoft Montreal could tell us more

FarCry 2 looks damn good, but it is not using any of the CryEngines. The engine is more like an individual, often a member of a group, who migrates from place to place.

    Edit:

So I disguise the name of the engine as it's not public yet, but then an Ubi guy just mentions it a few posts down...

It's using Nomad, an in-house engine.

Alan Wake uses in-house, but I guess that'll be a newer version?

    I ask the same question
