    http://www.solarthefilm.com

This is made by 2 guys in the year above me for their Final Year Degree Project.

Amazing to see it all finished after sitting in labs with them doing it and helping, the making of bit is fun to see how they put it all together.

Now I have to do this level of work for next year.

Very cool indeed. That must have taken an absolute crapload of work for just two guys to do. Good luck in hitting the same bar mate.

Decent stuff, makes me a little jealous. I liked it, might throw the link around. For my media studies here I'll be doing a claymation, which I doubt will be any good.

Its even more amazing when you consider they did this in 7 months, whilst doing the other 3 modules required for Year 3 and their dissertations

that guy keeps the planets and the sun going - illuminating his little rock which could be a metaphor for something larger. then one breaks down, and through teamwork comes salvation, or possibly just more rocks.

I thought the weighting on the little guy who rides the bike was a bit rushed (around his knees it is very noticable) but overall the quality of the piece is really nice - I like it overall, it's a little sparse but it is well done. I just found the whole thing a little boring, well executed but nontheless not very interesting

What was the purpose of the project, can we see the .. what's the word.. outline? Goal? I don't know, been a long time since I had to do anything like that.

    Criteria maybe?

One thing I do wish though is the making-of video be longer and more detailed/descriptive, ah well.

    From our course server:

    Quote

3D AnimationYou need to create a short animation on the subject of your choice. It should be a complete narrative. A short story with a beginning, middle and end. An example of this would be the squirrel shorts at the start of Ice Age where he is trying to bury his nut. We need you to demonstrate not only a technical ability but also some originality and creativity. (Example: Aurora, Tom Sparrow, A Feathered Tale or Hurry Home.)

You need to show a thorough understanding of 3D concepts and techniques

You need to show originality and creativity in storytelling

You need to show a sense of design and aesthetics

You need to show compositional and editing qualities

    Preferred

You also show an innovative approach to the medium of animation

You also show an innovative use of technology

The final piece should be 2 1/2 minutes long. Output full PAL to DV tape. A 320 * 256 pixel resolution QuickTime compressed with the Sorenson 3 video codec and the Mpeg 4 audio codec on CD Rom should also be submitted. All audio that is under copyright needs a usage clearance and that needs to be submitted as well.
