I'd be inclined to call a guy who bought 20 high-definition LCD televisions so he could turn a room of his house into a 360° viewing area a bit obsessed and sad, too.

I positively drool at the idea of this. My missus would go nuts though. Come to think of it, its probably a good thing that she keeps me in check

Yeah, I mean there are some really weird things I wouldn't mind doing, but I know it'd seem a bit weird if I did. I know people who actually have about ten pairs of very expensive headphones from different vendors such as Sennheiser and Grado, using each type for every different variety of music they listen to.

So they'll switch from one very expensive Sennheiser pair which might sound better with orchestra to a very expensive Grado pair which works with metal a bit better. Then they might use a different Grado pair that is best for drum and bass. Bear in mind we're talking £75+ for each pair here.

It might be a really specialised and probably high-quality way of doing it, and I could afford to do the same myself if I really wanted to, but I know doing so would be extremely excessive and just come out looking a bit sad to those who know me.

    All about perspective!

I've never really seen much WoW ingame - but that looks so lame.

Am I misinterpreting this, or do they not play with all these characters simultaneously? I assumed that's why there're multiple monitors and so many separate machines (as supposed to just using partitions of a single machine, or even logins). That is sad. That is obsessed.

I take gaming seriously, but I don't buy dozens of computers and copies of one game. That's going well over the line between 'serious' and 'excessive'.

The electricity bill alone must be epic.

It is possible that they play all five characters at once. On my server there was a mage and priest named Kristin and Kirsten or something like that. The priest would always just heal the mage and they were quite hard to kill. Five characters is a lot more to control than two, but some people have really good multi-tasking skills. With the right programs and keyboards/gamepads, he could control all of them at once.

i remember playing dark age of camelot, an encountering this guy who had his own guild of 8 people (8 being max in a group), calling himself team wizard and basically going into rvr/pvp with 8 of the same classes. he had a program so that he would push 1 button to fire all the same spells on all 8 characters. basically he had a setup of 6 or 8 laptops (you could run 2 instances of the game on one computer) configured to accept input from the master one.
