No songs as ringtones is a feature, not a bug. Apple correctly understood how annoying they are for everyone else.

I am putting forth no opinion other than this, and am merely passing on information so buyers may make an educated purchase decision.
I still would get one, anything is better than my current phone.
I'd probably have a similar opinion if I couldn't get an extremely high-end phone for at the very most a third of what the iPhone is liable to cost.

Phones haven't just been phones (in the UK) for years. I can't even remember the last time I heard a ringtone that wasn't a song/mp3/etc, and I use the train twice a day and hear them all the time. Hardly anyone uses non-song ringtones, so not being able to tick that feature off is going to make the iPhone a laughing stock in this market to a lot of people.
No video recording or picture messaging is also completely laughable, with the sending of them between friends being a foundation of having a social life these days. Plus it's just downright handy being able to catch something on film spontaneously, like when an office fight erupts. :cool:
Considering the iPhone is largely being coveted by image-conscious young people, it seems insane that these rudimentary features aren't included. It's not going to do well in this market if it remains that way, with it being an incredibly competitive market in the UK.
Just a matter of time until Apple gives up to the demands and release v2.0 of iPhone with "missing" features included.
Honestly, I welcome our mostly-phone-like-device overlords. Hate the video, hate the pictures, hate the ringtones, use text messaging a bit but don't like it...
fuck what cell phones have become is pretty much what it comes down to.
Sounds like you just need more friends.
Pretty much the only thing I use my phone for is to call people to tell them to get on skype so we can talk there 
(And of course, the obvious use of someone calling me in an emergency...)
The iPhone is already out in china. Well the tPhone that is... and they even got windows xp sounds!!!
