    http://www.button-masher.net/index.php

    Check it.

Finally have broken out of my 600px wide shackles and oh is it glorious. This design is even w3c compliant and finally table-free! Pow.

I haven't finalized the colors yet (some are still stolen from lunaran's new design, haha), and old news posts are broken by some new formatting, but how's the direction thus far?

I like it. Simple clean and easy to navigate. Reminds me, I should redo mine soon.

Looks nice and clean, writing might be a bit small for most people but I guess it’s okay for the clientele you expect to visit.

Conforming to w3c is sucking up to The Man.

It's pretty good for what it's intended to be, but I'd recommend somehow splitting up the columns a bit better. It's kind of hard on the eye to differentiate them quickly at the moment, which could easily be fixed with some well-chosen colour (perhaps lighten the grey for the backgrounds of two of them, or use a vivid colour for headers, etc).

The overall direction reminds me of Total Spore. You might want to look there for some inspiration since it's a good example of the (increasingly rare) light on dark style.

i like it too. it reminds me of an upgraded version of my own site, which i havent updated in years. white on black = win. black on bright colors hurt my eyes.

nice page layout, but it needs 2 things:

    - more colors

    - a link to my website

I rather like it. Not too sure about the right aligned, plain text header though - that looks really boring and basic to me. I wouldn't suggest anything hugely elaborate as that would be at odds with the rest of the design, but I think something a little more remarkable than plain text would be nice.

they are indeed awfully dark. there's a nice subtlety on my monitor (dell 2407) but even on my 2001fp it looks completely monotone, so I'll have to fiddle a bit yet.

It really is, but it seems a novel idea to me to actually try to do this right instead of my usual hackjobs.

I wonder if just brightening the news post background would help? It just struck me as you said that and I looked at it again I never intended to leave those black.

ohnoes! D: I'll be sorting out those links quite a bit more later, don't worry. I just recently shifted to having them only on the news page so I'll be able to cram in quite a few more people without bloating any of the portfolio content when it goes in.

I'm a little torn on this, too. It's minimalist, which I like, but it is bland. Not sure if I'm good enough to make a non-suck logo, but now that you mention it I have a couple ideas I might try.

database driven? I like the new style. Lots of text and I find it pretty organized!

same as it's always been, at least since I moved off PHL.

I was pleasantly surprised how well the news ported over, save for the paragraph spacing issues. Hopefully I can be smart enough about the other sections to make it just as easy. Biggest thing I'm trying to wrap my head around is how to split the two sidebars into their own content types using the system I have, and get them to only load on the news page... I might need to teach myself some PHP as well, haha.

I agree with Thrik, use an slightly lighter color for the posts' background. You could also use a nice font for the title and use an image instead of pure text. Nothing wrong with that, but a nice font (that fits the theme) would make it look a lot better

It's probably worth pointing out that after posting this the first thing I did (after go to work for 9 hours, eh details) was do 2 quick changes to make my site W3C compliant.

Wow, I dig this. Looks very nice, albiet monochromatic.

Some ideas: the post font could stand to be a point or two larger. I like the rollovers, but you might want to increase the disparity between colors. Disabled links (there sure are a lot of them, too) should point to # so the page doesn't have to reload. Also, please keep using text wherever possible instead of images.

Ah, # was what I was looking for, thanks. Hopefully those won't be there too long anyway.

I definitely plan on leaning mostly on text, save for the project stuff. I'm hoping to use the added space to great success for browsing the portfolio stuff. I'll have to see what I come up with.

    bump.

So there's some new colors on the site. Meh?

Also, working on ideas for some portfolio layouts; how do these look?

I like the layout. It's simple and it gets the job done.

For the homepage, since you have three main images greeting the viewer, I think you should select 3 very different/diverse images to show them. Like one that's futuristic interior, a fantasy exterior, and maybe a post-apocalyptic one. Assuming you have these kinds of images of course.

In the portfolio page, group together screenshots from the same level and provide a caption describing the level itself (possibly what game it was for) as well as what parts of it were your work (did you do all of it? Or just architecture? Or texturing and lighting? etc.).

If the site ends up being W3C standards compliant, you may want to put that icon on your webpage. Adds an extra touch of professionalism .
