Went for a stroll down the local beach back home with the gf last week and finally got around to checking the pictures out properly and editing them. Used my Dad's D50 as my DSLR fund hasn't got off the ground yet, well its more in the feasability stage...

Rather frustratingly I forgot to check what size he was shooting as (You'd assume with a 2GB SD card he'd have it on the max...) so these came out on the lowest JPG size. Gah. Luckily I'm back next week so will probably go retake them on a similar day.

As I said, D50 with stock 18-55mm lens resized down to reasonable size.

Shall upload more as I work my way through them all, took about 300 shots in 2 hours.

The first one is justs lovely, and I like the third one too, but I think that the effect you're using in the second one should be used with a lot more thought than what seems to be there.

Tried a different style with the second one again:

Some more, not sure I like these as much as the first one.

Cool stuff! I really like the blue bucket with b/w background!

It looks better, but it still lacks the reason why the bucket should be "popped out" of the picture.

The second picture here is by far the best. It has this journey kind of feel to it. If only it had somebody walking there or something in the sand.

Got my own camera now, a D40. Went down the beach again to test it out. Rather frustratingly somehow between getting it and taking the first few shots and getting to the beach a bit of dust got on the sensor, looks worse on the camera than it does on the photo and is easily cleaned off.

Heres a few from last evening.

No tripod, havn't got around to buying one. My dad has a pretty good expensive one but weighs a tonne so for on the spot photography its a pain.
