If I hadnt played bf2 so much, or not at all, I think I'd really love 2142... But it didnt do it for me :/

    Got a beta Key

I've tried the beta and if we except the horrible graphics, well, i don't know why but i haven't found the fun i had in Wolf:ET.

The weapon just seems strange, when i kill someone, it more because i've been lucky than because i've been accurate. I also don't really understand why we have to select a mission as there's anyway only one or two.

I don't think i'm a sucker at ET as i've reached hundreds of times the max skills of the class, but in this one i can't do anything.

Of course, the lag don't help to like it...

All in all, the point i dislike the most is the weapons

Hmmm yup, looks kinda messy gameplay wise from the looks of this video as well :G

I have to admit, the game looks pretty shit going off that video. The pace and general feel doesn't seem quite right to me, reminding me more of UT2004's Onslaught mode than anything else. The bits where infantry directly encountered each other felt very deathmatch-like, although I guess it's hardly surprising considering the heritage.

I guess it doesn't help that a lot of people are looking forward to Quake Wars with the expectation that it'll be a futuristic Battlefield-esque game done right (I know a lot of people said "I'll just wait for Quake Wars instead" when BF2142 came out), while the reality is that Battlefield 2142 is the one that did do it right and this will just be something altogether different.

I never played the original Enemy Territory so I wasn't completely sure how it felt. Quake Wars seems a bit too fast-paced and -- dare I say? -- arcadish (You'll love that, Rick_D!) for me.

I did have similar concerns when I watched the old videos on GameTrailers from E3 and stuff, but kind of brushed them off as early footage/etc. It looks like this may genuinely be a game not for me after all, although I will of course try it regardless.

However it is a beta so the patches, and the demo will hopefully improve the problems.

Havent played it, only watched the vid.

Doesnt really appeal to me. I wouldnt say the gameplay is UT2004 onslaugth like, but it does feel like a mess. I kind of get the feeling that it is prolly fun for noobs, but doesnt allow for enough tactics and strategy for the advanced players. Then again, I havent played it and Im not a BF player.

The map doesnt look great in the video btw. Especially the interiors, very 2002-2003'ish in terms of looks and polycount.

It would have prolly been cooler if it was much more dark gloomy alien planet strogg like - Quake like. More stylized instead of this more or less generic sci fi style in the usual earth like mountain range.

Well it's a beta, so it's obviously going to improve for the final product.. I'd hope so anyway.

It really does look very poor though, there's hardly any real lighting in the environments on that video and I can see a lot of obvious texture tiling, so much for Megatexture

Betas very RARELY change at all. But you knew that.

At this point in development a beta is basically a finished product, besides a few bugs and errors here and there. Nothing will be changed in the maps visually really (except bug fixes) so the maps are going to stay boring and bland.

The maps are a little on the low poly side yes. We did this to allow a more broader range of pc's to be able to run the game at acceptable speeds.

Megatextures aren't used on the walls, only on the outside terrain, which doesn't really tile.

I'm not one to really defend the game, but ffs you can't out rightly bash something when you got no clue on how it works

I've read on alot of forums people complaining "omg lolz, plz, it's much crappier than BF2 omg lololololo, this supposed to be the game which rox BF2's ass?" .... but... what are they talking about? I've seen none of the developers even mentioning BF2 in any interview or devdiary or whatever there might be. Only thing they talk about is Wolf: ET thingies... makes me so confused from where the BF2 players've got their rumors from. >.

Well, the ID tech4 SHOULD be able to render better quality of details, textures and models aswell as special effects than what's beeing observed in the beta. But then let's remember the word B-E-T-A... Not saying the game's far from completion, as it seems to be quite close to the full games release. But let's just keep that word in our minds, I'm quite sure with the technology they have they'll add some eye-candy.

I really agree on that it looks incredible bland and that being both from a technical and artistic point of view. As Kakburk also said, the engine should easily be able to handle more than this and still have it run at an acceptable level.

Regarding all the beta looks talk, I believe Zombie is right. The final game will not look any different from this.

Yeah I fired up the beta last night and honestly I'm not that impressed. The environment is very bland and in the graphics department the game looks like it could be almost 2 years old.

Gameplay is alright, but if the quality of gameplay is consistent with the beta I would probably get tired of the game in a few days.

Very mediocre, I was honestly hoping for more. However I will wait for the demo to make my final judgements.

What makes you think that Quake Wars is using the ID4 engine? It is a beefed up Doom 3 engine and for the very reason of this being a "beta" - don't get your hopes up for a much noticeable change in graphics/effects quality.

After they put out the footage for that nvidia showcase event some months ago, I knew this isn't going to be the big leap in terms of visuals for the PC.

I haven't played it yet though, only briefly at GC and that was very very fast. Not sure if people will like that - then again, die hard ET players will probably get their money's worth. I'll definitely try it at least when it comes out...or somebody gives me a beta key

Doom 3 engine = ID tech 4. So yes it's the Doom 3 engine and yes it's ID tech 4.

Whoopsy I thought ID's newest iteration is "4" - my bad. Didn't hear the expression "ID tech xy" before Carmack's recent presentation, people always refered to the engines as "Quake x/Doom x" engine

Late to the thread...oh well. Haven't played it. Only watched trailers and read up on it. Will address some points.

    1) Is it "Quake" brand or "Enemy Territory" brand? Since both are id related IP it could be considered a brand merge, however to retailers it's a Quake game and it will likely get considered a brand extension of Quake. Think about how many brand extensions and different offshoots of Mario over the years. This is sorta like that (sorta).

    2) The graphics do look about 2 years old...kinda bland. That could hurt the product if the game plays bland too. How's the atmosphere in the game? Smoke, fog, snow, etc? Short gameplay videos never tell the whole story.

    3) Years ago at work Wolfy:E.T. was our after hours MP game of choice for a while. We absolutely loved it especially using an external voice chat or conference calls to coordianate team combat. I would play that game again in a second on a LAN like that. A few things that made it such a big hit across the office of both hardcore and casual shooter fans:

    - It was WWII and back in 2003ish we couldn't get enough of it and non hardcore gamers could understand the setting instantly

    - The leveling made it really fun and the balanced classes rewarded teamwork. But because the leveling was not persistant it made it easy to forget a bad round or session and start all over the next night we played.

    - The missions and levels were interesting and the timed nature added a sense of drama

    - The tide often turned for one side if they got their act together which was soooooo cool

All this was enhanced with LAN play with 16 or moe people. I only played it online a couple of times and it simply didn't compare for me.

    So...

    4) If QWET delivers the same relatively accessible fun factor as Wofly I could see myself getting into it, however I'm finding I have less desire to re-enter the Quake II / Quake IV ethos as WWII. Imagine that?!

From what I've seen so far, Battlefield2 is a more attractive game (and BF2 is two years old).

I was looking forward to this but I guess I'll wait and see what the finished game looks like.
