Well, the game we've all been waiting for, You Are Empty is released.

    Quote

1C Company, Mandel ArtPlains and Digital Spray Studios are happy to announce that You Are Empty is now available through digital distribution. You Are Empty is a first-person shooter which offers players an alternative approach to the history of the late fifties of the XX century. Scene of action is the Soviet Union. Leading Soviet scientists start a big experiment that alter human physiology and mentality in order to create super humans capable of building bright future and communism all over the world. But something goes wrong. As a result the whole city, where that experiment took place, goes on a rampage. The majority of citizens died, and those who survived turned into hideous mutants - the only inhabitants of deserted streets. You Are Empty immerses you in an exaggerated dark and obscure atmosphere of Soviet totalitarianism. Fighting against mutants, that obtained super power after the experiment was carried out, the main hero tries to gain an understanding of what's happening around and save the day.

You Are Empty is available for download on the game digital distribution portal GAMERSGATE (http://www.gamersgate.com).

Anyone already have the game? I think I want to buy it, but I'm not sure yet

Screenshot 7 in the gallery. Any excuse to show off breasts! It does however seem like another "shooter you play when bored" indeed. Then again if I saw it real cheap I'd pick it up, since these days I don't like spending full price to get a kick in the teeth.

hmm the level design in that game is fantastic. The story sounds REALLY boring though.

I like the looks of it overall (especially the leveldesign- and the modelpart) but I absolutely don't like the conceptual design. I mean, look at the enemies..

    Got potential though..

I love their art style. Realistic 50s with a twist of dumb monsters drawn by kids.

I think the monsters also look like they were animated by a bunch of kids, and I'm not sure, but are those mosters supposed to look like that or are they meant to thrill the player?

I'm eager to play the game though. Looks interesting to say the least.

I bought the game. Downloading now. Will post what I think about it, once I'll get a chance to play it. I'm myself Russian, now live in US, but I do love the Soviet architecture.

I've heard good things about the game, except from all those "painkiller clone" guys who actually havent played the game.

I've sort of kept an eye on its development (meaning looking at screens) and I can't see how it would be similar to Painkiller at all. It's more like Stalker/Half-Life 2 if I had to compare it to anything.

Interested to hear what you guys have to say when you play it.

I got to play the first few levels and I seem to be fairly happy with the game. The atmopshere is one of the most important parts of the game and what this game did right was nail it. Negative aspect is that the characters are not that good compared to newer games and the things you can interact with are highlighted. The level design is very nice, given illusions of choice and having dead ends with secrets.

I want to go and play more, so might write a more detailed review of the game.

The more I play, the more I seem to like the game. If this game would be done with bump and spec maps it would be one of the best looking games out there. What this game does excessively is give an illusion of a bigger world. You can come across a room with windows and see part of the city you can't go to. I know some games do that, but not to this insane level. From level design standpoint whoever did the levels really understands form and space. Quiet inspirational actually.

Gameplay is not too bad either. Enemies vary based on the environments you're in. Interesting mini quests. For example, early in the game you have to cremate some guy and after he burns, you can get a key off his ashes and bones.

Some bugs, similar to when Stalker came out. Overall an enjoyable experience from gamer and designer stand point. Might not be next gen game, but still they managed to create fairly realistic rubble using brushes. Like I mentioned before, if you're into level design, you might want to check this out.
