I had an idea for mapcore that was essentially we should be able to have our own little threads about our selves for people that can't afford websites etc for portfolios or just want more people to be able to see their stuff in a big site and also receive comments etc. I found that interlopers has a similiar thing, basically just a seperate forum set up for individual members to show off their body of work and update it with new maps, things about ourselves etc. You can take a look at it here:

Hope it sounds like a good idea >:3

    Sounds cool to me.

Althought it may be handy to put the location of the guy in the topic title. Could be a good way to be recruit/recruit people but I dont want to click a hundred names to find out most of them are located on the other end of the world and thus unreachable.

That's a pretty cool idea, but there would be some heavy moderating needed because otherwise it will just turn into another "i can post all my 100 versions of killbox on mapcore so i'll sign up" portfolio sites

I'd rather have a sort of map submission idea for the port folio, that maps or level designers / 2d artist / modelers need to be approved to post in it.

Didn't CGtalk or one of those pages just add something similar to that? Like artist info where you can set your status to looking for jobs etc. etc.

I like the idea, but it could be a lot of work.

Really all it takes is a new forum opened up. All the work is for people to upload pictures of their work, the hardest part would probably be hitting the submit button hehe

Moderation wouldn't really be a problem I don't think, Mapcore has alot of talented people and I think they can handle creating threads full of images ;p

Obviously if we want to make it more than threads then it'd get a bit harder, but thats not really needed I don't think...

would be cool with sorta index list, with the possebility to search on location, from of work "2d.3d etc". and maybe some premade template, and free hosting. where people could show their work.

good idea, but it would be something along the lines of 1 thread (and 0 posts?) per person. it would be some hard work regulating usergroups though as well as maintaining it. guess it could be scripted though.

otherwise it'd be like this: if lets just say 4-5 people get a message from admins about it one day, then all of them would have to do their work that one day (so it would at least require the people to have made it on beforehand). after the thread the admins would regulate users out of the usergroup in favor for the next 5. rinse and repeat.

it would be pretty hard work for whoever choses to do this, as well as having to deal with people being lazy etc etc. it's possible, but you'll have to find someone dedicated.

Exactly, one thread per person its just the person whose portfolio it is

    1)creates a thread

    2) puts their maps + images in it

    3) people respond to that thread

the thread serves as a little "mapcore" portfolio, just a place where people can comment on other people's maps or work etc in their own personal thread.

I like this idea but it would make the finished work gallery forum redundant...

To a degree, it might be redudant for DODS or CSS maps but you don't ever really see mod work in the finished work gallery or minor/random models or textures etc etc, its a much more varied and comprehensive view of a person's work. If a person did create a CSS map and posted it in finished work gallery and also put it on their portfolio page there would be some crossover in that case yes, but I think not a big deal.

I disagree. Finished work is a forum for feedback, used by members to garner constructive ciriticism from their peers to improve their skillset. Portfolios are a far more in depth, personal profile of an individual, their history and abilities.

I think there is room for both

i have to agree with JamesL. finished work might just be a a single piece of work while the portfolio would host a person's best work.

i like the idea too. spreading cool portfolios in forums is much better than try and error some "url" icons below the postings of users. usually you get crap. a portfolio forum would make clear what you get. giving a first impression and maybe referencing to your own personal portfolio website would be an option for content intense galleries.

    well then: hands on!
