Ah, something to play tonight. Totally forgot it was coming out and forgot to check yesterday.

Having read the manual I do have some concerns about how fun it'll actually be, and I'm very concerned about the crosshairs. According to the manual you have no crosshairs when in normal view, but your gun can still fire accurately.

Are we being serious here? Games learnt years ago not to do that, despite the realism, because people very frequently would simply stick a piece of paper to the middle of their screen where the crosshair would be. In fact, I mentioned this in #insurgency when it was moderated on Sunday and got about ten PMs from people all "lol yes that's what I was planning to do, but with marker pen".

The fact something like that seemingly made it to release makes me concerned about the overall gameplay balance, but I'm looking forward to giving it a go anyway. One thing's for sure, an excellent job has been made of the actual production and I hope it'll help all involved to get nice careers in the games industry.

I agree with Thrik. If there's one thing I've learned it's that removing a crosshair doesn't stop people aiming with marker pen hax.

honestly i didnt mind the no crosshair... teaches you to be in iron sights strategically plus shootin out of iron sights felt like no scoping with the scout in css.

first person i killed actually was a no scope with the sniper rifle.

would the piece of paper thing actually work with the moving rifle not always aiming in the center of the screen anyway?

Terrible FPS while outside. 20 fps? Unplayable. I hope this issue is fixed in the next release because apart from this, it's a bloody good mod.

As I said I've not played INS yet so I have no idea how the theory carries over into actual gameplay, and it's simply a concern. I just have bad memories of the old Day of Defeat sniper rifle which had no crosshair when in normal view, but still had the accuracy and immense power of the sniper rifle. People would very frequently add something to the middle of their screen (using their other weapons' crosshairs as a reference) and then go around with an extremely effective rifle that can also zoom in.

Are you telling me that there's no potential for people to abuse this and get an unfair advantage in Insurgency? And I don't mean while running around -- I would assume the accuracy'd be reduced while moving anyway. Simply being able to stop dead and immediately start firing with a crosshair rather than moving into iron sights view sounds like it could make all the difference.

I'm also a fan of the no crosshair thing, but I'm aware that it can be exploited having been on the receiving end of people using a crosshair market in clan matches/etc in other games. This is why many games grounded in realism have tried it and then later abandoned it.

You don't need paper or pen - just look where the gun aims at and it will shoot there - works pretty nice in "ZOMG ENEMY" situations - other than that ironsights rock

I was thinking more about situations where pinpoint accuracy or headshots might be a bit more useful, such as other greater ranges than "spray and pray".

Even DOD:S has ironsights so it's not like I'm unfamiliar with the process and I know they're good.

It just took me 15 minutes to find an enemy to shoot at, although the opponent team had 17 players and I only found one because the round ended and everybody ran towards a choke point.

On the other hand it took me only 5 minutes to find a picture of hurg.

So to summarize - I give this MOD a 9.9/10!

The trick of the piece of paper won't work in ins, because like operation flashpoint or redorchestra you aim with the elbow movements, so your line of fire won't be stuck in the center of the screen.

Mh and about the game difficulty, being a red orchestra player in a server full of counter strike players could be metaphored as being a wolf in a herd of sheeps.

Capture objectives. Unfortunately it isn't very clear as to where they are at the moment. It should be more obvious where they are when we get around to fixing that. For now, your compass (top of the screen) should direct you where you need to go ( at least as an insurgent).

Is there no map (apart from the one in the loading screen)?

Wouldn't it make sense to put some kind of icon above the capture point? If you get close enough to begin capturing the point the icon can start flashing or something.

I don't believe. There may be in the manual, but I don't think in-game (yet).

That's in there. When you stand in a capture zone, a few icons will appear under your compass showing how many players are required to start the capture progress. I believe it scales based on the number of players in the server

Me and my brother just got done playing for about an hour and a half.. we had a lot of fun, but we were pretty much just running around and killing the other team. Then our commander got on his mic and was like "get to objective Charlie", and considering it was the first time either of us played, we had no idea what the hell he was talking about. I strongly support the idea of an in-game map like in bf2, so you can clearly see where to hell you are and where you're supposed to go. Other than that, I had an amazing time playing, great job guys.
