Not bad, I think the transitions between the different sections on the texture could do with a bit more depth, eg darkening the edges of the windows a bit more, and maybe highlighting the edges around them (even though its painted black, black paint is rarely completely black!). A bit more highlighting all-round wouldn't go amiss, actually (edges of the bodywork around the tires, door, front lights, etc)

Dried blood is a very dark red, not bright.

The front window should probably have some wind-screen wipers painted onto the texture. The bus is also completely missing a bumper, a front grill (although some buses don't have them, but usually there is -some- kind of decal or feature in the front-middle of a bus).

Maybe you coudl also fake some specularity on the windows, ie, brighten them up a bit in the centre. Right now the windows look like they are completely caked with mud from the inside (and even then you'd still get reflections on the glass!).

Thanks, helped a lot. I did some changes now, i believe windows still sucks but i can't waste anymore time on this. Gotta hope it didn't go worse

Nah, i already got myself to the tests, they're 21.5.-22.5. Now i'm desparately trying to finish this scenery before the tests, they want to see 1-3 example works, remember?

I'll post screenshots of the map itself later tonight or maybe tomorrow.

like, compile needed after few minor changes.

The bus is clearly a metaphor.

the second one is def. better. as you said it seems a bit too lowpoly would have been awesome with an inside even if it was very basic just to get some transparency and depth at the windows.

also it seems that black color really is pitch black. that hardly ever looks very good ingame sadly

Ok, this screenshot is horrible, especially when you've all seen ins. Well, posting it anyways! I'm really trouble in here, gotta rush. I have to play with lightmap scales and work on the lighting a lot, gotta place cubemaps and all that stuff i don't know shit about. I don't even know all the fancy stuff you can do in source. Btw, can i somehow have realistic shadows from the palms, or is it about the model itself?

Palm model is made by philip, i hope you don't mind me using and showing it here. It's too high quality for this poor little map

I know it's empty too. 2 days to go, kinda depressing.

    Cool.

And wow.. those palm leaves mip badly

Should probably loose some of the mip steps tbh.

Guess I didn't notice that much when it was used in a small room just.

Btw you can add nice fake shadows in source for palms and trees etc.

Hessi did a nice tutorial on that subject too:

Thanks! Gotta read it tomorrow or later tonight. I made the palms with prop_static, don't really know if they're ment to be done with another entity.

I think its pretty quality, sure its not the greatest thing ever but you have to keep in mind we're talking about Iraq, if you detailed it up you'd have essentially a pretty accurate picture. I think you're doing just fine

Please keep it up, its stuff like this that inspires me, since I'm working in this environment now.

prop_Static is fine! just disable shadows in the entity and place an overlay manually (see tutorial for further details )

Yeh, i assume it's pretty quick thing to do, or? Has to work pretty much with the first try, can't get stuck with anything at this point. I'll try to get the bus and props + other details for tonight's compile, feedback and suggestions are still more than welcome

I see the supports for the stairs(to the left) going through a window. Glass is know to be a not-so very good anchor point

I like the atmosphere and lighting at the moment but you could maybe add some destruction and debris.

I think of Iraq, I think of fire and cars exploding.

That's what the media does to you...

    There's no window there

I've added some stuff now + added the bus. How long rad should take to compile if lightmaps on most of the ground were scaled down to 2 or 4? Rad has been compiling for like 2,5 hours now, seems kinda odd and i'm getting kinda tired waiting for it to finish

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions!
