I was skeptical about how many steam users would have 1024x768 displays, but according to the november 07 steam hardware survey, 31.89 % do, which I really was not expecting.

The stats will be skewed by all the oldschool die hards playing CS1.6 and TFC on their shitty PC's. I suppose laptops count towards that too as well.

By the by, I love how they make that information publicly available. It comes in handy in all sorts of ways.

so I have been really busy lately moving to a new place and dealing with all that fun stuff, but I recently started working on the "garage" environment, which will be a little room that your kart sits in where you can customize your looks, your kart tuning, etc. Hopefully we will end up supporting custom garages too so people can download new garage environments.
Here is the lift that you and your kart will be sitting ontop of:

here is the texture:

and here is a toolbox prop that will be sitting close by, I still need to texture it.

here are the UV's (spent like 4 hours on these!)

what kind of lift blocks access to the bottom of the car

i like it

-
always raining on my parade bic!
I don't think there is much of anything underneath a go kart, thats my justification.
-
to be quite honest, i don't really like the entire thing in orange. the area that holds the lift could be blackish-greyish or something - but right now it burns my eyes. i think especially with the colored cars in my mind, this might look horrible, all these brilliant colors in one scene - i think the garage stuff should be a tad not so directlyeyeburningcolorwise and therefore the orange on the lower part of the lift, should be chosen and used wisely - it can still be there but not that dominant, that's what i'd say at least

the upper grey metal part looks mirrored in a weird way on the texture sheet, even though, its one piece - i don't know, some weird seam going on. but ok ok ok, "the kart stands on top of that, so you won't see fool"

modelingwise it looks great, though !
edit: sry, i was just so bored

my words meant this somehow:

you know, just less orange, cause i can't remember any asset of the game where the colors have been that extremely strong

oh well, i should start doing my homework now

-
Thats a good point Acu, it will be easy to adjust once there is stuff sitting on it and I can gauge if thats gonna be a problem.

finished texturing the toolbox

I really think the only way we could get on XBLA is if we already had a finished game on another platform, every developer I have talked to about XBLA is that it's not even worth trying. For one thing, the royalty rate to developers has now been slashed, and the market is so incredibly saturated now that it's almost impossible to get something on there, especially something like a racing game that XBLA already has a lot of.
Plus we would have to find a publisher to back us to get it on there since the price of the dev hardware and the entire process is way too expensive for our ramen-sized budget. PC is free and open and there are no restrictions, and hey - I even like to play games on it.
I don't need anyone telling me my game's not good enough

So I wouldn't hold my breath to see it on XBLA

Any news regarding Steamworks stuff?
edit: Also, you might want to take a look at this:
-
interesting, I wonder if it will be an actual app or just another web portal.
No word about steamworks yet.
-
lol i just came here to post a link to that. judging from the demo download it looks like everything will be website based with the exception of the file downloads which look like they'll be handled by a small app
-
Brian put up a blog post about a bunch of the tech we are using: http://nimblebit.blogspot.com/2008/04/y ... alone.html
-
love that toolbox! the colors are perfect.
-
I am working on an air compressor right now which I think is the most boring of all garage implements, I want to finish it quickly

-
finished another garage prop, an exciting air compressor!
