    would depend on your creativity.

or maybe just a nice surrealistic scene with hl2 content that has no purpose except of looking nice?

Then we would need be able to use custom content.

I vote for custom content in that case!

EDIT: How about: A surrealistic scene, with only 15 textures and only one light? Pretty crazy idea, I know

Didn't some one suggest in the last thread that a custom pack is made up and we have to make best use of it?

That surrealistic suggestion was neato, then again, it should really allow custom content, that would strike out lot of competitors tho, so.. dead end?

In the other suggestions, i'd personally say no for custom content, since it would be such an advantage for some guys. You can really make something unique with the HL2/CS:S stuff, that's barely seen anymore tho. At the moment i'm creating something with only HL2 and CS:S content and i believe people would expect it to have much more custom content than what it really has.

Might be kinda stupid idea, but how about create-something-vertical -competition? Like, the map should be about ~4 times as tall as it's width. Would be cool since so many seems to forget the vertical depth totally. Don't know how it would work ingame, just decided to throw something in myself too.

That seems to be what most mapping contests turn out to be anyways

If we're going for a "scene" contest, I'd like to be able to include custom content, since this would be a scene after all, nothing playable, if someone has a really good idea he can make a better one with stock assets than the guy who could use custom assets. The theme, could be some part of hl2, like coast, raven or something like that, but as a beauty scene this time .

I'd rather see a contest where people have to take the stock HL2 content and make something new with it, much like peri did with tobor. I always get a kick out of watching people turn a familiar texture set & engine into something entirely different. I remember looking at scary_1's HLDM maps with their violet & soft red lighting and original texture usage and thinking.. holy shit, this is... Half-Life?

I also second this one. You can still get some interesting results from this. I'd also love to see how people can be creative without custom content if this one is approached.

How about making a scene without the use of models? HL1 style!

How about a compo where you have to make a CTF/FF map with a random restriction (only hl2 content/size restriction/only using flat colour textures, ala the quake 3 geo contests), rather than just a DM map
