yeah sadly this 'it doesn't matter we're lemmings who settle for anything' mentality of the audience is what drives the games industry into an uninspired mess that it is of today.

just like TF2 is removing grenades. BUT NO ONE CARES COS IT LOOKS CARTOONY AND COOL AND VALVE DID IT ! lol.

This coming from a die-hard capcom fan? I forgot that they are truly the last bastion of worthwhile sequels

Thats what people want though, and what makes money. Really think games are made just for fun?

I'm not impressed with the graphics. It looks outdated and too cartoony and the movement of the flying things is like welcome back to the 90's, no tilting, no nothing.

hah yeah very true - but I can imagine the amount of characters on screen has got to factor into how awe-inspiring the gfx are.

and lol @ all the hate, holy shit.

    Its looking pretty mediocre graphically

    hard to deny

But then again I never played Starcraft so I can't comment on anything BUT the graphics.

It just looks very bleh to me. I don't understand what the fuzz is about. You can see like two big units on screen since the camera is so close. It looks very weak compared to C&C3.

New units, new abilities, new graphics, new levels, continue the storyline... this is the standard affair isn’t it? And it’s not devoid of new gameplay twists, the Mothership for example. And please respect we’re going by very limited information and the first thing the gameplay movie says is “this isn’t finished.”

woo so they made it 3d and put in some lighting. Still the same old zerg rush.

What did you expect, some new fangled zerg rush? Gameplay wise it is held as the most balanced RTS ever and it has a huge following for tournaments and competitive play in Korea, they really can’t afford to fuck that up. What would you want, another faction? More gameplay twists? Heroes?

Darkstalkers sequels merely added characters to the older version and fiddled with the special/ex bar and how rounds worked. Each one was still awesome to recieve.

I know you like to go against the grain and stick it to The Man, but I don’t see the massive problem here.

Anyway, my comments: They're blatantly using a tooled up Warcraft 3 engine, but it doesn’t seem tooled up enough and doesn’t seem "next-gen" to use the ever popular buzzword. The nuclear launch looked really bad when you compare it to things like the airstrikes in Company of Heroes. Hopefully graphics will get a good Blizzard style polish later... or they'll add bloom, that's pretty next gen.

Money is the basis to ANY industry. You're insane if you think that it'll work better WITHOUT money. What would be the reason for anyone to make anything that requires this kind of effort? Of course they're going to make a product that they can sell. Sure there will be marketing and some decisions will be made that will in the end make a game perhaps less enjoyable for some, maybe even most, of the players, but will cause a few more units to be sold, but shit, thats life. Stop bitching.

This is driving me fucking insane right now. TF2 sucks because its not close enough to TFC, SC2 sucks because its TOO close to SC1. What the hell do you want!? No franchises, no sequels, just 100% unique games all the time? Should the industry have just stopped after Warcraft 1 was created, and decided as a whole that this genre is completed to a satisfactory degree?! Well, we could do 3D, but thats just a gimmick to sell more. We could add classes, change scenarios, but thats just a gimmick.

The fact is, theres a ton of RTS games. They're all basically the same thing, you create a small militaristic civilization, theres some form of currency and resources, and using your civilization you create and upgrade different units. You use these units to conquer the enemy. Sure, if you suck it down enough, they're all the same exact thing. Shit, all FPS's are is you're some guy who has to click on enemies while they're in the center of the screen. Hell why not suck it completely down to ALL computer games are a series of pushing buttons and moving a mouse! Every game is the same thign! GASP!

The entire point of making a sequel is to build upon what was a success in the first one, the story, the gameplay, the visuals, whatever it was. Starcraft has superb gameplay balance for multiplayer gaming and 3 dramatically different races to choose from. Its gameplay was about as basic and straightfoward as it gets in the RTS genre. So for the sequel, they're going to try to capture this same balance between unique races which made the first one so fun to play. They've kept the old mainstays of the game, but added some new units into the mix, and given them some unique abilities.

How can you recreate the Zerg without zerglings and hydralisks, or the 'toss without zealots, or the terrans without siege tanks? You can't. They are icons of the first game, and they will remain. I think adding the rush ability to the zealot is an excellent idea and a perfect 'update' to the game. I like how they're working to make some units vulerable to certain 'lesser' attackers. It'll make the gameplay deeper, increasing the challenge. Reconnoissance will pay off, you can better prepare for the enemy if you know what they'll be attacking with. I think it'll help diversify tactics, so perhaps you won't just be building up a huge fleet of one particular unit.

It looks like the usual strong art direction from Blizzard, my only complaint is that it does seem to have gone more cartoonish versus SC1's style, which was closer to the games cinematics style, something that always bothered me about Warcraft 3 as well. It doesn't look very graphically intensive, which was pretty expected considering their user base but it still looks great.

But, I'm excited otherwise, if a little disappointed with the art direction. Can't wait for more details.

Well said, twiz. Company of Starcraft or Supreme Starcraft just wouldn't work. While it's great when games in a genre cross-breed a bit and use the successes and failures of others to build better games, there's a point where the genre is split up enough that you have to just stick to your guns and do what you do best. Which, in Blizzard's case, is make a Blizzard-style RTS game.

I'm stoked. Visuals look great in motion, the new units they've shown so far look really well-designed, and... it's freakin Starcraft 2.

Of course blizzard needs and plan to make money, be sure that i'm pretty realist about it, even the game makers need to buy food, pay their rent etc.. I bring that point, because when reality take the upper hand on creativity, i just find it sad, in an .. ethical way.

    case closed.

sc doesnt really introduce anything new, that's why i am more prone to getting c&c 3... it sounds more exciting what with the new race that has come and, despite me not having seen any trailers or anything, sounds much more interesting than sc2
